Top Vienna Kayaking & Canoeing

I booked this tour for myself and my 10-year-old son, and we both had a great time.We chose the early Sunday morning slot, which I'd definitely recommend. We expected a hot sunny day, but it turned out to be pleasantly cloudy with hardly any wind—perfect kayaking weather. The water was still warm enough to swim (James said around 24°C), and there were very few people on the Alte Donau. If you're worried about currents, don't be—the Alte Donau is calm, making it ideal for beginners and families.James started by showing us the different kayaks, explaining the basics of paddling and letting us choose the one we wanted. We picked the hybrid kayak/SUP, which was really stable. My son spent half the tour standing on it or jumping into the water!The scenery was beautiful, especially around UNO City where the modern skyline meets the peaceful waterways. It's a side of Vienna I hadn't seen before.We happened to be the only guests that morning, which meant James was happy to stop whenever my son wanted another swim. He also paused twice during the tour to take photos and videos of us, then sent everything to WhatsApp in full quality before we even got home. He also provided a dry bag and offered a locker for valuables, which was appreciated.The only downside for me is that this is priced as a premium experience. If you're comfortable exploring on your own, renting a kayak will probably work out cheaper. I also thought having the tour to ourselves was a bonus, although it felt a little surprising that nobody else had booked given the great weather and the time of year.I'd happily recommend it, especially for families, first-time kayakers, or anyone looking to experience a more relaxed, summery and adventurous side of Vienna.

James is an amazing guide, his knowledge of Vienna really made the trip. We had a great time and can't recommend him highly enough. James took care of all the safety elements and checked in on us throughout the paddle. It works for absolute beginners or experienced paddlers and was a fantastic way to spend a few hours.

We had a fantastic day in the Wachau Valley! James went above and beyond to make it a unique and unforgettable experience. He picked us up right at our Airbnb which was incredibly convenient. The day was a lovely mix of Kayaking on the Danube river, wine tasting in the wine hills, a typical Austrian lunch, and 4 beautiful castles on our way… while we hiked up to one castle to finish of this day strongly (the hike to the castle was optional). If you like Kayaking this day trip is a must!

I surprised my girlfriend with this kayaking and wine tasting tour and what an unbelievable way to end our trip. This was her review: I personally saw a side to Austria that I had never experienced or seen and the views while kayaking were just unreal. The wines were exceptional and the tour would be fantastic for anyone from a wine expert to a complete novice. Great historical knowledge of the area and overall an exceptional guided tour. Massive big shout out to James for putting in so much effort in making this an unforgettable experience for us.

My family and I had a terrific time on the tour. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. Admittedly, I did not know much about Vienna prior to the tour, but our guide told us a lot of interesting things about the city and why it's so important. The actual kayaking was great too- the boats were lightweight and very easy to move/handle. My mother says that it was the absolute highlight of our trip here to Vienna, and I'd have to agree with that. I'd highly recommend this to anyone visiting the city.

We had an absolutely perfect kayak trip with James! The weather was beautiful, but the best part was the guiding by James. He gave great instructions, made the trip really easy, had interesting history and perspective on the area and Austria, and was just very enjoyable to be with. The time flew by, and it was the most relaxing tour I have ever taken. We learned a lot, and felt we saw a lot of the area. We left feeling very relaxed, happy and recharged afterwards. Wow what a day! This is the ultimate best way to see Wachau and was the highlight of our trip to Austria. The views from the river are incredible, and you can see the entire wine region in a day. We spent ~4hours actually kayaking on the water with three stops— for a private wine tasting at a family vineyard with a lovely tasting area in Spitz, lunch at a charming restaurant by the water in St Michael’s, and ended the tour with an hour or two free time to explore Durnstein and hike up to the castle.We could not have asked for a better guide than James. Super knowledgeable, and really easy to chat with—he founded the company and clearly put a lot of thought into making every trip the best possible experience. Not for total beginners (you need to know what to do if there’s a boat with a wake) but the paddling can be as leisurely as you like, since the current will take you downstream anyways.If you’re considering it, book it and you will not regret it!

I loved to see the beautiful Vienna skyline from the waterside and at the same time being so close and connected with the nature. The quietness, the clear water, wonderful. Thank you James, for your empathetic, friendly, informative way of leading me through this tour. Without this wonderful guide, I wouldn't have done it and it was for me Vienna as its best. I highly recommend this tour for everyone, who want to see a part from Vienna that is one of the most beautiful places in Vienna.

Absolutely fantastic. A rave! My super sporty husband, our two occasionally cranky kids (11 and 13), and this un-sporty non-kayaker all had an amazing time, saw so many things, learned so much. James is a perfect guide, informative and encouraging. He made everything work smoothly, and in the midst of all the fun he greatly expanded our understanding and appreciation of the city. Just a great experience all around. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

What a great day out! This is a tour with a difference. James, the tour guide, is very personable, knowledgeable about wines and is clearly passionate about his work. I felt like an old friend rather than a customer - he went out of his way to make everyone on the tour feel comfortable and at home. The scenery is breathtaking, the kayaking was fun, though some previous experience is recommended. I am retired but did some kayaking in earlier years and I managed quite comfortably. All in all, a geat day out and very different from the usual group tours on offer. Highly recommended.

Great tour! Usually, I don’t really pay much attention to what guides tell me — I’m much more interested in paddling a kayak down the river. But in this case, the information was both interesting and practical, and the guide himself was super nice and charming. The tour itself is a few kilometers of easy paddling, suitable for almost anyone. Afterward, you can sit down at a decent restaurant right on the river.
