Top Samaná Catamaran Cruises

Miguel looked after us all day, started with hotel pick up then approx 2 hour drive to village to join catamaran. Cheese toasted sandwiches and drink included. We then had a 4 hour boat trip with around an hour watching the whales. 30 mins close up as well. Tail Flukes and fins on show. We think 5 Humpbacks in total. Then off to Samara village where we had a short trip up into forest for horse back riding to waterfall. Our horse partners really looked after us especially getting 2 people with back and knee issues on and off the horses and up and down the 200+ steps to the falls Oh I didn't mention lunch before the horses was excellent.

We had a great crew, our own Paparazzi, always someone who spoke English and Spanish amongst other languages. Saw whales, loved the beach and the waterfall. There are a Lot Of stairs. Lunch was real nice. Was 11 hours door to door for us.

Initial pickup was a bit worrisome, we were picked up from our hotel along with a few others from other hotels. We were driven out to the main road and then half of us were told to get off the shuttle and go to another bus on the road - no explanation given. When we got on the new bus we figured out this was the group doing whale watching. Not a big deal but it was weird.It was a long bus ride but we got to see lots of towns and landscape which was really nice to see. A part of the country we wouldn’t have seen without leaving the resort. We stopped along the way at a roadside shop for bathroom break - their were souvenirs and snacks available for purchase.Then we finished our ride to the boat. Our guide on the bus was very knowledgeable and friendly. We saw a lot of whales.The we were taken to an island for lunch and some time on the beach. Lawn chairs were available as were cocktails and souvenirs.Then the long ride back and another stop at the souvenir shop.

Everything was great. The horseback riding to the waterfall, the falls themselves and the wale watching was amazing. The hour on the island beach was refreshing as well. I just want everyone to know a few things… there is a 2 hour bus ride from Punta Cana there AND back. Second, eat breakfast, the breakfast is just a piece of ham, a piece of cheese on wonder bread. Third is to bring at least $15/20 for each one of your horse guides. I didn’t bring enough cash for the 4 guides we had, I only had about $7 for each and we felt really guilty. While we rode on the horses to the falls ( up hill, down hill, through the rocks and mud ) they ran along side, probably 20 minutes each way. If you prepare for those things ahead of time, you will have a great experience.

It is a very long and full day! Whales are never a guarantee but they certainly try. The island visit is quick and then off to the mountains which are stunning just on the drive alone. DR is beautiful and you see many sides in one trip.

The whale watching was very nice, but too short. The stay on the island was unfortunately unnecessary. The place was overcrowded. More whale watching would have been much better. Price/performance ratio was good

The whale watching was great but the other 10 hours was not worth it. The experience was only supposed to be 8 hours we were gone for 12

This was a lovely day out. We enjoyed all the activities especially the whale watching. The only negative was a lot of people were unsure of what was included in what they paid for. A couple next to us told the tour guide this and they were asked to pay more money!
