We had a wonderful time riding around town seeing all the attractions. Steve our tour guide was full of information. We also Enjoyed stopping at the beer garden for a quick pretzel and beer.

A memorable day trip to Schloss Neuschwanstein with our wonderful tour guide Barbara who was warmth, courteous knowledgeable, passionate and professional. Highly recommended to have Barbara for your private tour. She got enthusiasm in her job and a heart to serve people. A private tour was good that we could do things on our own pace. Both the Fairytale Castle and the Linderhof Palace were worth visiting.

I spent nearly eight hours with Tom Lewis exploring the Obersalzberg and Berchtesgaden area, and it was quite simply one of the most memorable historical tours I have ever taken.Tom is not merely a tour guide. He has lived in the area for some 20 years and has devoted a significant part of his life to understanding its history. Over the years, he has interviewed people who worked at the Berghof and has been in contact with family members and descendants of people connected with Hitler's inner circle. That depth of knowledge becomes apparent very quickly.What distinguishes Tom, however, is his ability to connect that knowledge to the ground beneath your feet. We explored the remains of the Berghof and surrounding complex, portions of the extraordinary underground bunker system, the site of Hitler's Teehaus, the Kampfhäusl and numerous locations that I would have walked straight past without realizing their significance. We also visited the Eagle's Nest, travelling through the original tunnel and taking Hitler's remarkable brass-lined elevator up through the mountain.Tom knows this landscape intimately. He can explain not simply what happened, but where it happened, how the various sites related to one another and how this enormous complex functioned. Just as importantly, he distinguishes carefully between documented history and the mythology that has inevitably grown around this period.I came to the tour having already spent considerable time reading about the Third Reich and visiting WWII sites in Normandy, Berlin, Munich and Nuremberg. I therefore wasn't looking for an introductory sightseeing tour. Tom exceeded my expectations by a considerable margin. I learned an enormous amount.He is also excellent company: personable, thoughtful, patient and genuinely enthusiastic about the history without ever sensationalizing it.Perhaps the best measure of the day came after nearly eight hours of getting in and out of Tom's van, climbing up and down the mountainside, following trails through the woods, exploring bunkers and stopping at one remarkable site after another. Eventually I looked at him and said, "Tom, I don't think I can take in any more today."And I meant it. Not because the day had dragged on, but precisely the opposite. My head was full. There had been so much to see, so much history to absorb and so many things Tom had shown me that I would never have discovered on my own.It was that full — and that good.For anyone with a serious interest in WWII history, the Third Reich or the Obersalzberg, I would strongly recommend arranging a private tour with Tom. If your interest goes beyond simply seeing the Eagle's Nest and you really want to understand what happened here, Tom is the guide you want.Exceptional.That little exchange also sounds much more like your experience than a polished travel-site testimonial; I think it is what makes the review memorable.

My wife and I came to Munich with a particular interest in the rise of National Socialism, the events that unfolded in the city during the 1920s and 1930s, and the people who eventually found the courage to resist it. I had done a fair amount of reading beforehand and was looking for considerably more than a conventional sightseeing tour. Taff delivered exactly that.What distinguishes him is the combination of an extraordinary command of the history with an ability to make the geography of Munich itself part of the story. We stood where Hitler and his followers gathered before the Beer Hall Putsch, traced their route through the city, visited places associated with the early Nazi movement, and saw locations connected with the SA, Röhm, Kristallnacht and, ultimately, the resistance that emerged against the regime.Taff continually drew our attention to details we would otherwise have walked straight past—a plaque, an old photograph, the former use of a building, the significance of a particular street corner—and then placed each of them within the much larger historical narrative. Munich ceased to be simply a beautiful reconstructed European city. Layer by layer, the city of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s began to emerge underneath it.Just as importantly, Taff does not simply recite dates and facts. He explains context: the aftermath of the First World War, political instability, hyperinflation, antisemitism, the attraction of extremist movements, and the incremental process by which something once on the political margins became enormously destructive. He is an engaging storyteller, but never at the expense of historical substance.There was also no sense that we were being hurried through a prepared script. Questions led naturally into other subjects, and Taff was perfectly willing to stop, explore them and adjust the tour to our interests. It felt much more like spending several hours walking Munich with an extremely knowledgeable historian who genuinely enjoys sharing what he knows.Perhaps the best measure of the tour is what happened afterwards. Instead of feeling that I had now “done” Nazi-era Munich, I found myself wanting to read more, see more and understand more. Taff had given me a framework into which everything else I was seeing could fit.And somewhere along the way, something else happened: I feel as though I gained a friend.Taff is warm, generous with his knowledge, endlessly interesting and simply great company. By the end of our time together, I wasn't thinking about whether I would take another tour with him. I was thinking about where I could follow him next.I definitely intend to return. There are other places, other stories and other layers of this history that I now want to explore, and I can think of no one I would rather learn them from. Taff possesses a vast store of knowledge, but more importantly, he has the rare ability to make you want to keep learning alongside him.If you have a serious interest in twentieth-century history and want to understand not merely what happened in Munich, but how and where it happened, spend some time with David “Taff” Simon.First rate. And, I hope, until next time.

Anna was a fantastic guide for our walking tour of Marienplatz and the surrounding area in Munich. She provided a wide variety of entertaining and useful information, with insights into architecture, significant historical events, culture and fashion, and most importantly (to us), food recommendations. Our guide, Bob, was excellent! This city tour covers the northern area of Munich. This area is full of historical sites from WWII. We really enjoyed Bob's wealth of information shared and his route that took us on bike paths and small alleys.

Although it was a fairly cold day, we had a great time on the bikes. We were really impressed with the amount of history of Munich/Bavaria and how engaging it was. Unfortunately we couldn't stop at the usual spot for the Beer, but our guide managed to find another spot right near the river surfing instead- great alternative!
