Top Acapulco Archaeology Tours

This trip was everything I hoped it would be. Our transportation, guided tour, lunch was one of the highlights of our trip. Tour guides very knowledgable about the site, the civilization, their religious practices/beliefs. They took good care of us. I booked the trip knowing the physical efforts that would be involved. They were very patient with me and even helped me with the trail walk and stairs where necessary. The traditional Mexican lunch was excellent. It was time well spent! Oh and the guide spoke wonderful English which I cannot say for the remainder of our stay. A huge thank you for the wonder time!!!

Visiting the ruins was a fantastic experience in my trip to Acapulco. My guide Jose was very knowledgeable of the region and explained some on the way to the site. At the site, we met up with the former owner Señor Poli, and he explained everything in great detail. I learned so much. The ruins were great to see, but also the surrounding mountains and forest.

Our trip to Palma Sola was marvelous. Though a bit tricky to get to, it is well worth the trouble. And we had the site to ourselves. The glyphs are interesting for anyone interested in the history and origins of the region, the location is peaceful and generally quiet, and the views are spectacular. We did not have the lunch mentioned, but that was fine, since we live in Mexico, and mercados are pretty common fare for us, but Mario was kind enough to take us instead to the very fine mask museum. All in all a wonderful morning.

A trip beyond the beach, up the verdant hills among the clouds to walk among eighteen distinct ancient petroglyphs carved in granite, two to three thousand years ago. A one kilometer climb at your own pace, where you can pause, take in the silence and the symbols, and contemplate the prehispanic history of Acapulco. Highly recommended.

Rudy - is the best tour guide ever. We saw a lot of tour guides all around the world but this guy beat them all. His energy, his manner of telling is so breathtaking that it seems like you are visiting the best place on Earth. Now continuing traveling to other cities we are always missing Rudy and wishing he could be the tour guide in all parts of the world. But, unfortunately, you could be blessed to order his excursion only in Mexico...

Rudy, Romeo, Santiago were great tour guides in showing us around for this tour! Great insights on seeing the petroglyphs and beautiful view of the city once you get to the top of the mountain. The Municipal Market tour was great in seeing what and where the locals do on a daily basis. Not so much of a touristy area but that was great. Got to try some good tacos and liquor! Would recommend to get more time to have eat and sit down somewhere but I do understand time is essential. The tour was very fixed on having a personal guide and feeling comfortable with wherever we were at. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone up for an adventure!

I took my family (husband and two girls, 7 and 3) on this tour with Rudy and Roger. Ernesto, the ruins guide, knew a lot about this place. It has a brutal sacrificial history, amazing views from the top of the pyramid and a fascinating story about a giant and his boulder.Try the mutated bumpy looking fruit hanging from the trees at the beginning of the walk, it tastes and feels like cake! Take lots of water and good shoes, there is a bit of uphill climbing and never turn your back on the walk down the pyramid steps! If you find yourself a bit sensitive to the area and feel a slight itch on your leg, rub a bit of the hot dry dirt, worked wonders for my daughter.

Tour by Van is by far the best tour experience we’ve ever had as a family of four with two young teens. Rudy sent Jose Mario who gave us a private tour of Acapulco which included the Chapel at the top of the mountain, Cliff diving and provided detailed history of Mexico dating back over 1400 years. He is a wealth of knowledge and the kindest person you could ever meet. Our 2nd tour was a local Wrestling (Lucha Libre) event that took place at night, it was super entertaining and safe! Our 3rd was an archaeological tour which took place one hour from Acapulco. Again, Rich is history and majestic scenery of Tehuacalco. Lunch was fresher than any restaurant could offer. We learned more about Mexico on this trip than any other trip combined. I, personally have been to Mexico 5 times, to five different locations. Not only was it informative, it was emotional.I strongly recommend Rudy’s Tour by Van and Jose Mario as a Guide. They will always be our friends in Mexico.

Highly recommend this tour for history, archeology buffs, and others interested in ancient cultures. Rudy and Mario picked us up right on time at our hotel. We were driven through the Sierra Madre, through villages and a variety of farms. Senor Pauli the original owner of the land, gave us a great tour (translation by Mario). Pauli’s story and the history of the ruins is fascinating. Not as extensive as say Machu Pichu but amazingly large for something so recently “discovered”. Very well maintained. Wonderful lunch at a local restaurant and a nice drive back to our hotel. See it before it gets crowded.

Excellent tour. Highly recommend it. Very informative and interesting.

Roger our guide was extremely friendly, personable and highly knowledgable. The petroglyphs were amazing and set in the most beautiful forest. The market tour was a fun and interesting look at Mexican culture and their way of life. As a bonus we even received a YouTube video of our tour and a slide show of all the pictures our guide had taken during the tour! Great tour and highly recommend!

Our tour began with a visit to the central market. We picked up several other tourists and we all visited the market together, then broke up into groups to see different things, later we met back up at the restaurant for lunch. The market was an experience like we've never had before. It was just like we've seen in travel shows on TV. It was interesting to learn how the locals do their shopping for their fruits and vegetables, tortillas, meats, medicinal herbs, pinatas, and clothing. There were also restaurant stalls so the shoppers could eat while doing their shopping. We were able to sample several kinds of unique fruits. It was quite an experience. The petroglyph site was very interesting. It is a shame that it is hardly visited by anyone, tourists and locals. A week into the new year we were the first visitors. There is a lot of interesting archaeology to see and the carvings were in very good condition. Jesus was genuinely appreciative of the historical significance of the site and proud of the local heritage. We enjoyed his company very much. Also, the view of the city from the top was spectacular!!! It is a bit of a steep climb though, but worth it. Lunch was included at La Cabana on Caleta beach. This was our second visit to this restaurant, and we enjoyed the view of the beach. They had fans and misters to help keep you cool. The food was tasty and it was interesting to see how their version of tacos is quite different than American's version of tacos. Their tacos were rolled and deep fried with the toppings served on the side. Most Americans would call this Taquitos. A restaurant near us calls them crisp meat burritos. It was nice to be able to visit with the other tourists at lunch and hear about their experiences. I would have liked to have given this tour 5 stars, but it seemed very strange to us that our guides, Mario and Jesus didn't seem to know the way to the petroglyphs. It is our understanding that Jesus is new on the job and still training, still it seemed odd that he has lived in the city all his life and didn't know where something was. I really don't know what Mario's excuse was, as I believe he has been a guide for some time. He didn't know the way to where we were going on another tour we took with him also. We had to stop and ask several people for directions and spent at least 10-15 minutes driving around the hillside trying to find the way. It just seemed strange that they didn't have adequate directions before we went.

We had an excellent tour, our driver Mario was very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed great local food and got to try Mezcal at Senior Paulie's farm, we learned a lot about the area. Would highly recommend.

Our guides where friendly and very knowledgeable of the site and Guerrero in general. The taxi was very clean and cool and the drive was as beautiful and educational as the archeological site itself. My partner and I were honoured to learn from Pollo himself, despite the language barrier we learned so much about the history of the Yopi and the site. Our guides generously took lots of photos for us and allowed us to take breaks in the shade as needed (bring plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat as it was 37 degrees there). I would highly highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in archeology or Indigenous history, the private tour is especially worth the money. Our guides also offered us a discount on a variety of other tours in Acapulco, so I recommend this tour in the beginning of your trip.

Our guides were awesome and personable, with tons of knowledge of not only the site but Mexico and Guerrero in general. One of the most beautiful drives I’ve ever been on. Our guides took us to the home of the gentleman who used to own the land the site is on and we ate wonderfully fresh fruit and he joined us on our tour. It was the highlight of our trip to Acapulco and I’d recommend it to anyone who comes here!

Very personalized tour! Very special & intimate. We learned a great deal about the petroglyphs and the local culture. Highly recommend this tour group and Jose Mario as a guide!
