Welcome to Custer

Custer South Dakota, population 2,000, is one of the oldest European settlements in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Established in 1875 by gold miners, Custer is a Black Hills mountain town. The charming historic downtown is filled with gift shops, galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. Herds of buffalo roam just to the east in Custer State Park. A few miles away are attractions like Mt. Rushmore, the Chief Crazy Horse Memorial, the Old West town of Deadwood, Badlands National Park, and Jewel Cave, one of the world’s longest caves. Museum visits, hiking, mountain biking, hot air ballooning, buffalo safaris, and cowboy chuckwagon cookouts are few examples of fun things to do in Custer.
