Top Faro Cooking Classes

This cooking experience was delightful. I was paced really well and included a trip to the market, class, and lunch. Insights into the food, how to prepare it, and other tips about drying herbs were shared by Alexandra as she helped us cook our first Cataplana. The 4 hours flew by and the result delicious... including the starters and desert provided by the restaurant. Thank you.

We started the class in the Faro market where Chef Alexandra taught us about the history of the market and the agriculture of the Algarve. We had previously taken a cataplana cooking class in another region of the country so this background was helpful in us better understanding the dish as well as the Algarve region. After our time in the market, we went to Tertulia where we had a delicious regional snack of muxama (dried tuna) while Chef Alexandra prepped for our class. The restaurant was accommodating of my gluten allergy. We then went into the cooking classroom area above the restaurant where we learned more about cooking and food traditions in the Algarve as we prepared our meal. We then returned to the restaurant and had regional appetizers, our cataplana, roasted potatoes, dessert, wine, and coffee. This was an educational, fun, and delicious was to spend the day in Faro. Tertulia’s atmosphere is wonderful and the staff were attentive. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We also came away with a restaurant recommendation for our next stop in Tavira, which was equally enjoyable.

We had such an incredible time exploring the market, understanding the social hub of the community and experiencing the freshest ingredients (fruit, veg, fish and all!)The cooking class itself was held at the restaurant which was very gorgeously decorated and set up for the cooking classes. We also had coffee and a starter (the most delicious cured tuna) before the class began!The class itself was really personable and great conversation and knowledge :) we made the most delicious cataplana!Then we ate the cataplana alongside some other dishes and the most incredible white wine!We would definitely be recommending this to everyone, it was such a lovely time in such a gorgeous space! Everyone was so friendly and knowledgable!

Amazing cataplana cooking class for our family of four! Doris was a fantastic teacher and made the whole experience fun and easy. We cooked a delicious seafood cataplana, then enjoyed it with wine and appetizers on the beautiful patio. Loved it so much we bought a cataplana pot afterwards to take home with us so we can recreate the dish! Highly recommend!

We had a great time cooking with Doris. She took the time to explain the process, the history and the ingredients. We had a lot of fun cooking Cataplana and then enjoying a lovely lunch afterwards with our cataplana, potatoes, bread, wine and dessert.

Had a great fun time and some good food. We were very well looked after by the chef and the restaurant staff.

Margerida was a passionate and knowledgeable teacher that brought joy and interest in cooking but also the story behind the food. It was super easy to learn and pick but new skills while having a blast, definitely would recommend!

Wonderful experience for my party of 15 (ages ranging from 14 to 86)! Katrina gave us a welcome intro and Alexandra walked us step by step through the process of using Cataplana to produce a wonderful shellfish and fish meal! We had a few lactose intolerant participants and Alexandra made some accommodations. After making the meal we were seated to some appetizers and white and red wine, then we ate the delicious Cataplana dish and a yummy fig dessert with fruit! Excellent and attentive Service (by Leandro and Diorgo) ! All in all: Educational Wonderful and delicious experience enjoyed by all!

We really enjoyed it. Susanna, the cook, explained everything really well and we prepared a delicious cataplana together. There was also dessert, starter and free drinks.

I'm an experienced traveler. Pretty much tired of most museums and churches. I'm always looking for experiences that will teach me more about the local culture, traditions and foods. This is an excellent example! Tertulia was started about 10 years ago and is a real tribute to an entrepreneurial owner. ' Alexandra' hosted my cataplana cooking class and made it clear. The recipe is not complicated but she explained the subtleties. Trip to the market beforehand was also delightful. I highly recommend !!

Alex was a great teacher. We learned the history of cataplana as well as the "how to's" of making this traditional Portuguese dish. We were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived. I recommend this to everyone! Thank you for the experience.

From the tour of the market, to the cooking class, to the food...it was all excellent! While I did this class alone, I would recommend it for couples or groups. They have a great room totally devoted to their cooking class.
