Welcome to Waco

About 100 miles south of Dallas in north-central Texas, the small city of Waco is a hub of western history set along the banks of the Brazos River. Founded in 1849, Waco boomed beginning in 1870 when a suspension bridge was built to allow safe river crossings by immigrant wagons and the herds of cattle driven north along the Chisholm Trail. The 1885 invention of Dr. Pepper and many other historical events took place in the town. Waco is also popular as the location where the hit HGTV home renovation show Fixer Upper is shot, and the Magnolia Market shopping complex, pedicab tours, river cruises, and ranch visits to experience cowboy culture and horseback rides are destination highlights.
