Welcome to Vermont

Vermont stretches from the northern edge of Massachusetts up to the Canadian border. It is the only New England state with no Atlantic coastline. Admitted to the Union in 1791 as the 14th state, Vermont is the second-least populated state in the U.S. The capital, Montpelier, is America’s least-populated state capital. Burlington is the largest city with about 42,000 people, and is a popular tourist destination. Revolutionary and Civil War historic sites, pastoral rural scenes, colorful autumn leaves, farmers’ markets, farm stands, and maple syrup are well-known Vermont attractions. All types of winter sports draw visitors to Vermont, especially at ski resort towns like Stratton Mountain, Stowe, and Killington.
