Tuxtla Gutiérrez Travel Guides (Updated October 2026)

Alvaro showed us the canyon, it was indescribable! He has a lot of knowledge about the canyon and you can see his passion for nature.We started around 7am and were able to enjoy the magical silence of this beautiful place and observe countless birds. I would do the tour again at any time.We also received a very comfortable kayak and high-quality equipment from Alvaro, which made the tour all the more fun.

I have not finished my tour yet, but these 2 days have been fulfilling the itinerary, everything in time and form and the tours are great, previously we had already come with another agency, but passion X trips is better organized

Amazing trip! The first stop is the waterfall that is incredible, your tour guide takes lots of photos and allows you to go into the water! You can also zip line down the waterfall for an extra charge. The mango michelladas are a must! The lake sells really good authentic food and I highly recommend taking the wooden boat tour to the center island and jump off! We were able to stop by the Guatemala border before heading back to San Cristobal.

Started at 6:30 am got back about 11 pm in Tuxtla Gutierrez. The waters were beautiful. Can only swim at the end of the tour for the first waterfall. Best to change at that time not wear swimsuit throughout. Bring towel. At the lake, the wood log ride was neat to the island. Can jump off 6M jump into lake. Cenote isn’t anything special, Wouldn’t care to see it again. There are little snacks and places to eat at each stop. Overall good driver, informative tour guides and nice experience. Bring water and snacks!!

Super long bus ride but it is worth the drive for the amazing view of Chiapas!!However, the tour is missing the breakfast that was promised... In addition, even though we paid for english speaking tour, the driver did not know any english at all. We could not communicate with him AT ALL....We waited for our meal until 5pm when we were brought to a restaurant where we had to pay for our meals.Although the tour at the archeological site is english, all the other part of the tour was in spanish and we had difficulty communicating basic needs to the driver.

The views were incredible!, my children took many photos, they went on the zip line, everything was incredible, the water was very clear, the guide was an excellent photographer

My partner and I purchased a package from Otisa that included transportation from Tuxtla Gutierez airport to San Cristobal de las casas, the Sumidero canyon and Chapa de Chorzo tour, and a private transfer to Palenque with stops in Misol Ha and Agua Azul. The honorable mention goes above all to Frida, the agency's operator, who was the first to respond to my requests regarding organization and reservations. She followed me step by step with attention, kindness and availability for several months from before our trip to Mexico while trying to figure out how to optimize our time in wonderful Chiapas. Even during the tours she made sure to understand if everything was going well. We were very happy to meet her and thank her in person at the end of our stay. Obviously these are group excursions so we know that the times are rather limited. I must say, however, that the organization proved to be perfect in our case. Punctual and precise with the timing, friendly and competent guides and drivers. The canyon is a truly spectacular place, breathtaking. The time on the vehicles is a lot because in Mexico the distances expand so much considering roads and topes, however in my opinion it is still proportionate to the time spent on the launch. Maybe I would have extended a little to Chapa de Chorzo but I don't feel like saying that we rushed. Another special thanks goes to Amadeus who accompanied us privately to Palenque on a long journey of more than 6 hours with stops in Misol Ha and Agua Azul. A nice, prudent, available person. He solved a small problem we had during the trip transport with the help of my companion, in a scrupulous and attentive way. He told us many things about his Chiapas and this was worth more than the digressions of any guide. Maybe a little more time to spend on the 2 sites in this case would have been appreciated, but it is also understandable to reduce it to allow the driver to safely face the long journey back to San Cristobal. The prices cannot be defined as low. But in Mexico no one gives anything away regarding excursions or experiences. However, I would say that they were absolutely money well spent. I absolutely recommend everyone to rely on Otisa to organize their trip to one of the most beautiful countries of the earth. Thanks Otisa, thanks Frida, thanks Amadeus! Manuela and Riccardo

Every Mayan site is magical!! You feel catapulted into another dimension! Palenque is no exception! You are almost incredulous both for the beauty of the place and for the sense of disorientation you feel when you walk among those ruins so well preserved, it really seems like you are in those times! The monuments are set in a forest rich in every plant and animal of every species! Everything is taken care of down to the smallest detail and the street vendors of artisanal products are very careful not to invade the sacred spaces. A beautiful journey through time! The route is not too difficult, except for the sections on the steps of the pyramids, which are rather steep and risky for people who tire easily or have difficulty walking...however, even without climbing the stairs, the landscape that can be admired is a disarming beauty!

I’ve taken this trip in the past on a solo trip to Chiapas, but this time I was traveling with my husband for an anniversary trip. What could be a more romantic way to spend our special day than Palenque and waterfalls! When we were picked up at 4am, we were a pleasantly surprised that we had our own driver. On my previous trip in 2019, I payed the same amount to be on a larger group tour. We got to know Juan and some great conversations. I knew that the guides at Palenque are very expensive ($3000 pesos to start), so I did my research and saw that we could pay by credit card. I didn’t want to carry that much cash on me and it seemed like the best option. When we got to Palenque, we verified with our guide, Gama that we could indeed pay by card. I highly recommend paying for an official guide because the experience is worth it. Unfortunately when we were finished with our tour, our guide was unable to connect to the internet server and so we were going to have to pay by cash, which we definitely didn’t have. The closest ATM was a Santander and it wouldn’t take my card. This could have been a really precarious situation, but Juan immediately stepped in and covered what we didn’t have, no questions asked. Our next stop was to the magical Misol-Ha. On our way to Agua Azul, there was an unexpected thunderstorm. We were able to to stop for lunch, but couldn’t access the falls because of the rain.Even with being rained out of Agua Azul and the mishap at Palenque, it was a really magical day and we know that part of that was because of the excellent attention and service we received. We would definitely recommend booking with this company.
