The experience was quite nice. We had a boar trip from Tulcea all the way to Mila 23 where we had traditional for and fish, it felt like a true authentic experience and a great way to discover the Danube Delta and Romania! Would totally recommend it :)

PRIVATE 4-5h speedboat tour to the village Mila23PePla8, Aug 2026
Swamp adventure
We loved the tour! Mr. Ciprian was extremely adaptable and available in terms of reservation. He really helped us in a gas crisis (make sure to have a full tank if you travel from Braila to Tulcea) and was super responsive. The tour was amazing - we won’t forget the beautiful Amazon-like nature, the lillies, the cabbage ducks or the nice, authentic lunch. The boat ride was also refreshing and fun - Mr. Ciprian’s English was perfect and he really knows what he is doing. Thank you so much from Slovenia!

Unforgettable experience.
Our communication with Calina before the trip was excellent (wonderful woman with a great sense of humour). Eventthough we had read previous reviews, it took us several hours on foot the day before to locate Port Tulcea Aval. We travelled to Tulcea for this experience and our expectations were definitely exceeded. Our guide was Florin, who was a botanist/conservationist, who was knowledgeable, obliging and also had a great sense of humour. Thankfully, we travelled for ten hours (255 kms) with another family from Brussels, who were equally as delightful. Wonderful to see the beauty of Romania, particularly the eco system of the Danube, the birds wild horses and cattle. A separate lunch of chicken was prepared at the village which was very pleasant and filling. Our host was a jolly, friendly woman. One of the best days ever. Thank you Discover Danube Delta for this experience...well worth the cost of the trip.

A great experience!
We traveled for 10 hours through the Danube Delta in a small open motorboat and saw an incredible amount: White-tailed eagles, kingfishers, penguins, wild horses, and many special plant species. At noon, we were exclusively served a very tasty Romanian lunch in a small town in the middle of the delta. It was an exhausting day but a great experience. Only the departure point is a bit hard to find. It is located approx. 2 km away from the waterfront promenade.

Great experience on a private trip in the Danube Delta
Can't say enough good things about this trip. We'd been looking for a birding trip in the Delta and they were either fully booked or super expensive. And then we came upon Safca. Though not specifically birders per se, they worked with us to come up with a three day private slow-boat tour through various small canals and lakes where we could see lots of birds. As we arrived at Mila 23 we found some beautiful rollers (super exciting). The next AM we saw all kinds of birds on the way to Letea and back. Another night in Mila 23 and off again birding on the way back seeing more rollers, bee eaters, and kingfishers. The best surprise of all was the black woodpecker we found at the picnic lunch spot our captain new about. Safca was super accommodating, pleasant, fun, and took great care of us. Both father and son treated us well. Our captain was really alert to us seeing birds, stopping for birds, slowing down for us to take photos, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip.

Unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime day's birdwatching on the Danube Delta
An amazing experience visiting the Danube Delta on a one-day private birdwatching trip. We left Tulcea before dawn on open-topped boat (see picture) until mid-afternoon when birds were less active. We were lucky to get perfect weather, and seeing the sunrise over the Delta was an unforgettable experience. Our guide (and I think co-owner of the business) Ili was incredibly knowledgeable and alert, pointing out new birds all the time as they were seen or heard and taking us to the best spots for species that we had indicated in advance we were keen to see. Ili also was knowledgeable about the history of the Delta and the pressures it is facing from human activity. At times the sheer number and variety of birds was overwhelming, especially in the 2-3 hours just after dawn when passerines were singing everywhere. Ili was also very patient - I am a birdwatcher that is very good with the ears but a bit slower with the eyes and at times I can miss something that is right in front of me!Although I had a small camera with me, our trip was primarily about soaking in the experience of hearing and seeing the wildlife in such a unique environment. If you are primarily a photographer then you need to let the company know in advance and they may take you different spots in the Delta to facilitate that.On this trip you have the option of buying lunch at a local traditional restaurant in the Mila 23 village, and this is the same place that the longer trips use as their base. It is a peaceful, pleasant spot and some people may welcome an hour without the hum of the boat's engine.Communication in advance of the trip with the operator was excellent, Calina was the person who handled this and she was very prompt at getting back by e-mail when we had a query (always a reply within 24 hours). Especially as we had to change the date of our trip a few weeks before we travelled. One important thing to note if doing this trip is that the boat departs from the small pier at "Port Tulcea Aval", and not from the promenade at Tulcea. If you are staying in the main hotels by the promenade this is about a 15 minute walk. Alternatively you can drive to it, and it is 40 lei per day to leave your car there. As we arrived the day beforehand, we checked out the departure point that day so that we did not have to worry about it on the day. From a birdwatching standpoint, other aspects of our travel plans limited the dates we could have taken this trip. If you have a completely free hand as to when to visit, I would suggest two to three weeks earlier than we visited would be even better e.g. mid April to end of first week in May.Overall a fantastic, unforgettable experience.

Winter Birding Day Trip to Dobrudja from TulceakevincX4508IK, Dec 2025
Winter Birding
It was our first time in Romania, and we had two days to birdwatch in Dobruja and the Danube River Delta. We hoped to see some winter specialties, especially the Red-breasted Goose (we got great visuals both days), and (on the second day) to take a boat trip on the Delta. We unfortunately had extremely strong winds both days, which made the boat trip impossible. At first I was upset about this, but our guides were flexible, modified our itinerary to maximize our experience given the conditions, and we ended up with two very unique, fulfilling, and bird-filled days around Dobruja. It being our first time, we had a long list of target species. Our guides went above and beyond trying to find them for us, and we ended up seeing more than I expected! In addition, they took us for a few “surprise” birds (I won’t spoil it for you!), which was very exciting and unexpected. The guides are professionals in every regard. In addition to their unmatched knowledge of local birds, we learned so much about the history and culture of the region through our conversations over the two days. They were patient, kind, resourceful, and treated us and the natural world with the utmost respect. I highly recommend booking your trip through them, and I hope to come back someday to see the region and its birds in the spring or summer.

A Magical World
I traveled to Danube Delta in July 2025 with great expectations and my expectations were rewarded to 100%.As soon as we left Tulcea pier and entered the small channels of Delta, a magical world was revealed in front of us. Our guide Iliuță, a skilled photographer, boat driver, ornithologists and you name it with more than 20 years experience in Delta, helped us find beautiful birds, landscapes, making everything look so easy! If you are a photographer and not only, if you like nature or birds, you must experience the Danube Delta at least once in your life!

A wonderful day well spent in the Delta
Florin was very personable and accommodating. He is a biologist by training and knew the plant species we encountered, not to mention an expert ornithologist. Plus, he’s just a great guy!

A 5-star experience in the heart of the Delta
Today we had an absolutely wonderful walk in the Danube Delta — a corner of pure nature, vibrant and peaceful at the same time. The guides were very well trained, friendly and attentive, and the chosen route took us through spectacular places, where we admired rare birds, water lilies and willows reflecting in the calm waters. The boat was comfortable, everything was done safely and with respect for nature. We felt relaxed and connected to the environment at the same time. A real outdoor therapy! I recommend it from the bottom of my heart to everyone who wants to enjoy the authentic beauty of the Danube Delta.Thank you for a perfect day!

5 stars.
We spent 2 days in Tulcea and both days were tours with the Safcas. Our first tour was a 4 hour slow boat tour and our second tour was a 5 hour fast boat to Mila 23 which included lunch at a family run pensione. You will see so much including the beautiful surroundings and so many species of birds. The home cooked lunch was delicious. We highly recommend both tours!

Fantastic Bird Watching and Fishing Tour
We were a few days in Mila 23 for the fishing and also trips in the delta. Everything was perfectly organized, the guides were professional and friendly. The guesthouse - Alexandra and Alexandru- was comfortable and nice with local and very tasty food.
