Te Anau Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

This was one of the best trips i have had so far. Our guide Steve was so amazing and helped us understand the whole journey and its history. Will definitely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to do Being a small cruise also helped us get near to attractions as compared to bigger cruises

Fantastic tour through an incredible cave system, with countless glow worms lighting up the darkest areas.

We booked a private Milford Sound tour with Nigel and couldn’t have been happier. We were picked up on time at our hotel in the same side-opening Tesla shown in the ad. Nigel knows all the best stops along the way and the drive to Milford Sound was incredible, with Nigel providing lots of information along the way. We stopped for a quick but amazing picnic, had many photo opportunities and saw some playful Kea birds at several stops. In such a unique vehicle I did feel we were the envy of many travelers! Once at the boat terminal, Nigel knew the staff so we received special treatment. Of course the boat tour was simply incredible, and Nigel was right there waiting went we were done. Before departing he took us to several other hidden spots for more photo ops and informative stories. The drive back was also enjoyable and we stopped at a few of the places that were too crowded on the way up. Overall this tour was so relaxing, informative and enjoyable. We couldn’t imagine doing Milford Sound any other way.

We did a private tour to visit Milford Sound. PC made this trip. He's the rare guide who's genuinely expert in everything you're looking at: geology, botany, geography, local history, and makes all of it fun. His stories from years at the Department of Conservation and living in the area added color you'd never get from a guidebook. We learned more in one day with him than we would have in a week on our own. On top of that, he's just great company.The stops and detours were the real magic. We'd never have found them on our own, and one detour ended up being the highlight of the entire day. We also got to meet Nigel, the owner (a lovely man), and shared biscuits and coffee with him in the middle of a gorgeous valley. That's not something you get on a bus tour.The car's panoramic roof made the scenery easy to soak in, and not having to drive the narrow, winding roads ourselves was a huge plus. Ask for PC. He's worth it.

Jayden our bus driver was wonderful. Well organised and very knowledgeable, pointing out and stopping at numerous points of interest. Milford sound was beautiful. It was raining and windy but still beautiful. Definitely invest in waterproof jacket and pants.

Enjoyable couple of hours. Very knowledgeable guides. You do get a little bit wet in the cave. Hot cup of tea at the end was nice.

An amazing overnight experience with spectacular scenery, amazing staff & wonderful food. Highly recommended!

The Doubtful Sound overnight cruise was an unforgettable experience. The scenery was breathtaking, with towering mountains, waterfalls, and peaceful waters all around. The best moment was waking up in such a remote and beautiful place, with the silence and wildlife making it feel truly special. The crew were friendly, the food was great, and kayaking added to the adventure.

The tour guide was great and had lots of information about the region and its history. The drive was smooth and we got to stop at some great lookouts along the way. The buffet at the cruise was great with plenty of food and the cruise ride itself was stunning!

We had a wonderful time on the tour, our driver Vaughan was a brilliant driver and guide! Definitely recommend

We had a great experience on our tour to Milford sound. Russell, our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable about both the history and landforms of the Milford area! Would recommend.

We did this tour yesterday and it was one of the best tours we have done. We were the only people on the tour which made it extra special. Our guide was absolutely fantastic and really made the tour worth the price. He could answer any questions we had and was a good laugh. We’d recommend this tour to anyone we know visiting Te Anau

Great experience! Most of it was on the coach with a few photo stops and the driver was awesome and very knowledgeable. The cruise was also beautiful and went around in a circle and the captain was amazing at letting us know the history and what we were looking at. The ride was smooth

Incredible vistas all the way! We had a friendly and experienced driver, the coach was clean and comfortable. We were lucky to have a clear, sunny day and calm water on the fjord. Highly recommend the warm buffet lunch on the cruise! We travelled with a senior family member, so the later start and easy itinerary were well suited. OveraIl I would highly recommend this tour experience

Worth experiencing if you’re in Te Anau. The view from above was breathtaking, and the pilot was friendly and informative.
