Welcome to Taos

Taos New Mexico originated with the Taos Pueblo Native American village, built over 1,000 years ago and one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in the U.S. Spanish colonists settled the area from 1615, building the town’s central plaza and early adobe structures between 1780 and 1800. Modern Taos has been an artist colony and tourist destination since 1899, and the quaint plaza, original adobe buildings, and amazing pueblo are city highlights. Visitors find a rich, diverse cultural history, art galleries and museums, unique wineries set in stunning valleys and canyons, winter sports, white-water rafting on the Rio Grande and Chamas rivers, many local hot springs, and much more in Taos.
