High jumps and waterfall rappels
I booked this adventure because I wanted a more challenging one and I loved it! The route is pretty rocky and slippery and have to walk a lot. I wouldn't recommend it to people who are not doing any sports, panicking of hights and kids under 13/14. Our guides were pros and friendly, they took very good care of the group (8 people, was ok size). The fauna is mind blowing, the water is clear and we saw multiple waterfalls, pretty cool. Everything hurts and it was totally worth it!

This was a excellent tour. The waterfalls were beautiful and the nature and scenery during the hikes was like being in a lush fairy tell world. The tour guide Emanuel was very friendly and informative Some of the hikes were a bit physical but it was definitely worth it.

Enjoyable dolphin watching experience.
Great guides, out on boat more than 2 and a half hour. No whales, but lots of bottle nosed dolphins and hundreds of the spotted Atlantic species.

10/10
Such a fun and unique experience! We felt really safe the whole time, due to the both kind and very professional guides. We went jumping into the waterfalls, we did rappelling, did sliding in the waterfalls, and because of good weather conditions, we were even able to zipline! Me and my friend both learned to do a frontflip into the waterfalls aswell. Would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for an adventure and an active activity with lots af adrenaline rushes:)

Great fun and beautiful scenery!
Great fun and a beautiful day! The entire trip was about four hours, including the drive up to the volcano and around the rim. The scenery was absolutely beautiful, and our guide was fantastic—very knowledgeable and enjoyable to spend the day with.We were especially fortunate to have perfect weather. No rain, and I was even able to wear shorts! We also stopped in the charming town of Sete Cidades for a restroom break and to pick up a drink if needed.I would definitely recommend bringing plenty of water with you.Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a great way to see the area. Take lots of photos—you’ll want to remember the views!

Magical, world-class adventure canyoning Lombadas with Limite Vertical
We had an absolutely magical, world-class adventure canyoning Lombadas! The Azores truly feel like another planet, and having Carlos and João makes all the difference when you want to absorb the landscape without the rush of a big group. The geothermal features around Lombadas and Ribeira Grande—like the iron-rich water and rising steam—add a prehistoric vibe that you just don't get elsewhere. Our private tour began with a thrilling drive through steaming green fields, leading us into a landscape of hot springs, natural sparkling water, and striking iron-stained rocks along the Ribeira Grande river.
As adrenaline lovers with prior canyoning experience in Madeira and Tenerife, we felt completely safe and supported thanks to our incredible guides. Carlos, a master trainer of canyoning guides, and João provided a thorough briefing and customized the route to perfection, offering reassuring guidance that easily calmed my pre-trip nerves that I allways get while canyoning. Whether we chose to slide, rappel, or take a backward or other jump, their expert knowledge and patience allowed us to fully relax and enjoy the refreshingly cool waters and the stunning natural scenery.
The expedition culminated in navigating the canyon's most challenging obstacles, including short, incredibly slippery waterfalls and a final, spectacular long descent of nearly 50 meters. João led the way down the cliffs with lightning speed, waiting at the base with his camera to capture every unforgettable moment. From the pristine lava rocks to the unmatched personalized care, this solo guided tour stands out as the ultimate canyoning experience on São Miguel.
Experience & Atmosphere:
This exclusive canyoning excursion delivers an intense, high-adrenaline experience set within a mystical, prehistoric atmosphere where active geothermal steam and dramatic lava formations surround you at every step.
Length of Visit
This immersive half-day journey spans roughly 4 to 5 hours (9am to 1 pm in our case) of heart-pumping exploration where you feel like Robinson Crusoe.
Staff & Best For
With a crowd size strictly limited to our own private party, we received personalized attention from elite guides Carlos and João, making this elite adventure best for thrill-seekers, active couples, and experienced adventurers craving an unhurried, tailor-made rush.
You can find this and other adrenaline on our youtube @AdoraceAdrenalinuIF YOU WANT TO READ MORE, THERE IS LONGER TEXT:
We love an adrenaline rush. We fell in love with canyoning during our first visit to Madeira. We were told that Lombadas is the premier canyoning spot on São Miguel, and Carlos and João were the best guides we could have asked for. The adventure began last week (end August 2026) with the drive itself—a narrow road where steam occasionally rose from the surrounding grass, a sign of the geothermal activity that accompanied us throughout the day. We bathed in hot springs, drank “sparkling” water, took a "warm shower," and pressed our iron-stained palms against the rock. Best of all, we had solo guided tour; we didn't have to share the guide with a large group of other people which is sometimes the case.
From where we parked the car, the route took us through Ribeira Grande river, past an old roofless house. Then we hiked through beautiful scenery, keeping close to the river. Even though we had prior experience, we received a dry-land briefing on how to handle the ropes and carabiners. The first obstacle was a backward jump. I’m not a fan of jumping, but anyone who prefers not to jump always has the option of rappelling down. Here, there was also the option to slide down. Our guide, Carlos, actually trains other guides, so he was incredibly experienced and happy to share his expertise with us. He has a wonderful way of describing the nature and scenery of São Miguel. Together with João, he was also a fantastic source of reassurance; he helped me relax after my initial nerves—I always get a bit anxious before a canyoning trip—they allowed me to truly enjoy the experience. The water was pleasantly refreshing. Joao was the only one who felt a bit cold. Carlos would always pause, happy to hear about the adventures we’d had so far and what we’d already seen on São Miguel. We gradually made our way down the most difficult waterfall—short, yet extremely slippery. Then we descended another very slippery waterfall, settling onto the lava rock at its base.
Next came the longest waterfall; as always, João went down first. He usually reached the bottom in seconds. This time again João went down first. But this time it took him longer. I soon understood why. When I made the descent myself, I couldn't bring myself to look down. Then, bands of rusty-orange rock appeared on the walls—the end was finally in sight.
You can reach this waterfall via a steep trail—the very path we took on our way back. Nearby, there are beautiful iron-rich pools; you can scoop up the orange mud and use it to stain a rock—press your palm against it, and the print won't wash away even after several rainstorms.
After catching our breath, we headed back. It was an uphill climb the whole way. At one point, it was clear the slope was destined to give way in future; guides were forging an incorrect path, marking the route with plastic ribbons (Carlos tore them all down). One must approach nature with a "give and I won't take" attitude—and that is exactly how Carlos operates. He showed us how to snack on ginger lily flowers and shared the story of how the plant arrived on São Miguel (much like the Japanese cedar) and spread unchecked, having no natural predators.
On the way back, we encountered many tourists looking for the right route to the Lombadas waterfalls. Carlos willingly explained the way to the only group that asked politely, warning them to be very careful—though they likely never made it; we ran into them elsewhere later that afternoon. A wetsuit and non-slip canyoning shoes were the perfect gear for the trip. A final treat of honey cakes and blackberry liqueur by the car before saying goodbye was the perfect finishing touch.

São Miguel: Level 3 Wild Canyoning in Lombadas, Azoresrusasha, Aug 2026
Amazing Canyoning Experience
Rodrigo and Eduardo were amazing guides! We were a party of four, where one was a complete novice and the other three had some experience. Guides were super helpful and made the beginner extremely comfortable throughout the journey. Included in our tour we did three waterfall rappels, the last of which being 45 meters.Fun for us, but it’s better to be in shape for the steep hike back. Definitely would it again!!
