Port Douglas Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

It would be hard for me to imagine that there could be a better Great Barrier Reef excursion operator than ABC Safaris! Our boat had the most amazing crew (Harry, Alex, Gabe, Shane, and Tahn)…great hosts, friendly, knowledgeable, encouraging, all the things! The food was plentiful and delicious with good variety. My husband said his snorkel was like being in a documentary and had an amazing time! We especially loved that each guide was assigned to no more than 6 people; our group only had 4 people. Our guide, Harry, was really great. He was so patient and encouraging with me. I was terrified (1st time snorkeling and not a fan of any water without visible “boundaries”, meaning I only like bathtubs and pools) and wasn’t even going to get off of the boat, but Harry didn’t let me get away with that! He coaxed me into the water and stayed right by my side the entire snorkel (his version may involve a death grip on his arm at 1st and then me hanging on to the flotation device while he pulled me around on it, barely controlling my panic attack, but it really is his word against mine since everyone else was too busy looking underwater to pay attention to us, so…). Seriously though, I was grateful for his kindness and patience; without it, I would have missed out on the opportunity to snorkel at the Great Barrier Reef!

Excellent river tour on the Daintree, operator was very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife, located a number of crocodiles, snakes and birds up close, boat is very quiet and allows close access, location was easy to get to.. great value and happy to recommend

Move over, every other boat trip, because ABC Reef Safaris just ruined all future vacations for us! Calling this a "snorkeling tour" feels like an understatement—it was more like a VIP backstage pass to the Great Barrier Reef. With only about 20 of us on board, the crew didn't just herd us into the water; they basically gave us a bespoke underwater experience. The real flex? Our 6-person groups were guided by a squad of dive masters and actual, real-life marine biologists. We weren't just splashing around; we were getting an elite-tier private tour of once-in-a-lifetime ocean real estate. The captains and crew were absolute legends—attentive, wildly knowledgeable, and apparently obsessed with cleanliness. The boat was in pristine, sparkling condition, and the gear was so immaculate I’m convinced it was unwrapped just for us. The food was delicious and the conversation a very witty light hearted banter. If the universe ever aligns to bring us back to Port Douglas, there is zero competition. It’s ABC or nothing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great small group tour. Walks in Mossman Gorge and The Daintree, a river cruise where we saw lots of crocodiles and a walk at Cape Tribulation where we luckily didn't see any crocodiles! Great morning tea and lunch included. Tour guide Ash was great fun with lots of knowledge, humour, patience and stories for us.

We did the 2-hour tour with David and it was absolutely worth paying for the extra hour!David is incredibly knowledgeable about the crocodiles, wildlife and the whole Daintree River environment. We saw so many crocodiles, and they were completely unfazed by the boat, which meant we were able to get incredibly close while still feeling completely safe.David has such a calm and lovely energy, and you can genuinely tell how much he loves what he does and cares about the crocodiles and the environment. We could have happily spent the whole day on the boat listening to him and exploring the river!The whole experience was fascinating, relaxing and so much fun. Thank you so much, David, for such a brilliant experience. We would absolutely recommend the 2-hour tour to anyone visiting the Daintree — it’s definitely worth the extra time!

Me and my wife had an absolutely fantastic experience with Tony’s Tropical Tours, and especially with our guide and driver, Tom.Tom was an excellent guide and a very professional, punctual and capable driver. He made the whole tour incredibly enjoyable with his great stories, sense of humour and entertaining way of engaging with everyone, especially the kids.He also provided plenty of insightful and interesting information throughout the tour, bringing the places we visited to life without ever making it feel like a lecture. It was clear that he knows the area extremely well and genuinely enjoys sharing his knowledge.Everything was very well organised and efficient from start to finish. Tom was friendly, entertaining, knowledgeable and professional, and really contributed to making the day such a memorable experience.We would absolutely recommend Tony’s Tropical Tours, and if you get Tom as your guide, you’re in very good hands!

Very good experience, great food and the complimentary drink was fantastic.

From the moment we got picked up we were looked after superbly. Wayne was a fantastic guide and rider. He had lots of interesting information without being overwhelming. We did a five hour tour and saw so many things that you just don’t see on other tours. Lots of local history, stories etc. my husband is 75 and he had one of the best days in years. If you’re over the run of the mill tour,…… take this one . It opens your eyes to a whole different view. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Worth every penny.

Matt was very knowledgeable about the crocodiles and the rainforest. Very calm on the water and went up very close to a crocodile.

From the adventure, scenery and swimming to the whole experience, it was a fantastic day from start to finish. Highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a fun, adventurous and memorable FNQ experience!

Fantastic experience. So exciting seeing the crocodiles in their natural habitat accompanied by our guide Graham who was so knowledgable and very entertained with it. He even added an extra few minutes as he guessed that the crocodile might have gone up onshore and lo and behold, there was the massive crocodile called Scarface, resting on the sun. A great trip, easy to find and easy parking. I would highly recommend this trip.

Easy to find as the Lady Douglas is the only one of its kind in the marine. Great welcome from the skipper and his helper. I didn’t spot the complimentary drink or the lovely snack on booking making it great value. The trip is at a lovely pace not too fast and not too slow. We found a crocodile. Huge monster just resting. My wife then spotted another one on the return leg and was rewarded with a free drink. Great experience and would gladly do again.

The tour guide was very knowledgable! I loved listening to him. We saw crocs abd a kingfisher and a treesnake. The reception is lovely, with tee and krackers. The employees were so nice.

Great experience. It was a very windy morning but our guide made it a comfortable and very interesting ride. Seeing Lumpy and some cute little crocs, learning how hard their life cycle is. Added bonus was the complimentary tea/coffee.
