Cool things to do inPapua New Guinea

Exceptional experience of the flora, fauna, culture and military history of the Kokoda Trail. Incredibly passionate guides - Peter Morrison must have recited at least half a dozen poems from memory about the Aussie WW2 experience, in addition to detailed descriptions of the fighting from Brigade level down to individual soldier accounts. The daily legs were well managed and catered for all speeds of hiker in the group. An unexpected highlight was the interaction with the porters. They come from different villages along the track and seeing them welcomed by family as we pass through their village was delightful.

It was a memorable experience to walk with Peta Bull, our trek leader. Her passion is palpable. She is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and emotional about Australian soldier’s and the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels involvement in the Kokoda campaign. Walking the trail was not just about following in the footsteps of our diggers. Thank you to our PNG support. They worked efficiently and tirelessly to organise camp and provide three meals a day. On the trail, the carriers assistance and support was invaluable. Thank you to the trekkers for the fun, laughter, encouragement. Sincere thank you Peta and Adventure Kokoda

Adventure Kokoda (AK) has a well organised logistical operation from arrival in Port Morseby throughout the trip including to departure home . Operating in remote PNG, you were aware they had contingencies in place on the track if needed. The 9 day trip was just the right length and a good group size of 12. I liked the South to North trek direction we travelled as you learnt about the campaign and hardship of the diggers. There appears an ethical approach as AK employ locals lads from many of the villages we trekked through as porters . They supply them with decent packs, sleeping bags, equipment and food etc. It translates into the company having very positive relations with all local villagers we encountered and so its a win-win. The porters were extermely helpful and patient and became a reliable mate. Their head guide-Peta Bull- was extremely informative and passionate regarding the war history throughout the trek. The culminating visit on the final day to Bomana war cemetry was very worthwhile.

Adventure Kokoda 10 Day Premium Kokoda Campaign Trek led by Mr. Peter MorrisonI recently completed the Kokoda Track with Adventure Kokoda as part of a group of graduates and longtime mates from the Royal Military College, Duntroon Class of 1993. It was an outstanding experience and one I would highly recommend.Peter Morrison was exceptional as both our trek leader and military historian. He is extremely capable, fit, highly experienced, personable and has a natural ability to get along with everyone. His professionalism, judgement and strong focus on safety gave us great confidence throughout the trek. It was obvious that he knows the Track, its challenges and the requirements for safely leading a group exceptionally well.Where Peter really stands out is his knowledge of the Kokoda campaign and his ability to bring its history to life. Even within a group with considerable military experience, Peter significantly deepened our understanding of the campaign. At the key battle sites and locations along the Track, he went well beyond simply describing what happened. He explained the tactical context, shared personal accounts, poems and stories of courage and sacrifice, and connected the events to the soldiers who fought and died there. That transformed the experience from simply completing a demanding trek into a genuine battlefield pilgrimage. You come away with a much greater appreciation of the extraordinary achievements and sacrifices of those who fought along the Kokoda Track.Peter also has an excellent ability to read a group and get the best out of individual trekkers. He knew when to encourage, when to challenge and when to allow people to experience the Track in their own way. He was a perfect fit for our Duntroon Class of 1993 group.Angelo Tsirekas complemented Peter extremely well and together they provided a very professional leadership team. The planning and administration throughout the trek were excellent, allowing us to concentrate on the experience itself. The PNG crew and porters were also outstanding. They were hardworking, friendly and incredibly supportive throughout the journey. Camp administration was extremely well organised, meals and equipment were well managed, and the porters consistently went out of their way to assist trekkers. They are a fundamental part of the Kokoda experience and deserve enormous credit. Very pleased to see Adventure Kokoda look after the porters so well compared to other trekking companies on the Track. Attending and viewing the grand final soccer games in one of the villages was a highlight.Kokoda is physically demanding, historically significant and, at times, confronting. Adventure Kokoda ensured we experienced all of those dimensions. Their combination of professional leadership, excellent logistics, strong safety culture and deep knowledge of the campaign sets them apart. If you want to walk Kokoda simply as a physical challenge, there are many ways to do it. If you want to understand the history, the people, the courage and sacrifice associated with the ground you are walking over, I would strongly recommend Adventure Kokoda.A memorable experience made even more special by sharing it with old friends from the Duntroon Class of 1993.Brigadier (Retd) John N. Had an amazing experience with Adventure Kokoda on the 8 day history trek. I was lucky enough to travel with a couple of friends, but it wouldn’t have mattered if I was solo because the group we had were awesome. We all supported each other and got along really well with plenty of laughs. Our trek leader Gerhard was terrific. He has an immense knowledge of the Kokoda campaign and his military background and experience really helped paint the battlefield picture. He was also an amazing leader that got the best out of us all.I would recommend doing this trek with Adventure Kokoda. I was blown away by the amount of logistics and personnel behind the scenes to make every trek run smoothly. I would also encourage you put the training effort in. Whilst you don’t have to be an athlete to complete the trek, the fitter you are the more you will enjoy the experience. For me I was able to challenge myself and pay my respects to the diggers on the Kokoda track.

Outstanding well orgainised tour of Kokoda track with Aventure Kokoda. Beautiful scenary, informative guide. We worth the walk but ensure you are fit before attempting this walk. For me the 8 days tour was a great option.

A very nice trip. Well paced, lovely guides. I was happy with all I saw and the commentary on the trip. Thank you.

The tour was amazing. The tour guide and driver was so insightful. The village was very welcoming and kind. The markets were filled with souvenir stalls. Water was provided. Very great experience and would recommend to everyone, especially families as the kids played with the locals. Thankyou.

Amazing experience with an awesome guide. Highly recommend using No roads for your Kokoda trek. Something you will never forget. More than a trek, the history is included and is heart wrenching to hear.

5 stars doesn't feel like enough! No Roads Expeditions delivered an unforgettable Kokoda experience from start to finish. The guides are the real stars passionate, supportive, and with us every step of the way. Whether you're struggling up a ridge or soaking in the history at a memorial site, they made every moment meaningful. An incredible team both on and off the track, doing incredible work. Absolutely go with No Roads.

I would highly recommend this tour. It was interesting & informative. Our guide Jeff was very knowledgeable & took us to all significant areas explaining WW11 history & answered all our questions. We also saw & learnt about modern day Milne Bay area & its people inc food & crafts market & sights stops. All our expectations were met or exceeded.

On a rainy day we set off with Jeff whose knowledge of the area and WW2 was very comprehensive. Much of the evidence of the battle has gone but Jeff was able to take us to specific sites, tell us what happened and make the description very interesting of this significant battle. He gave context, side history plus gave us a current day tour. Des organised the tour and was always available and helpful ensuring success. Well done, very informative and enjoyable half day in this area.

Daniel Wakra and his son Augustin met us promptly at the dock in March 2026. My wife and I then had a very enjoyable day touring around various sites in Port Moresby with Agustin and a good driver assisting us. As I had spent many years in my youth in this city long ago, Augustin patiently accompanied us as we visited several places important in my memories, e.g.: my old school at Boroko; the St Marys Cathedral in the CBD; Bomana War Cemetery; we drove inland up into the foothills of the mountains to Rouna Waterfall; we bought good New Guinea coffee at Vision City Mega Mall. We passed by many notable, modern sights: Ela Beach foreshore, APEC Haus, Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, the National Parliament Building, Koki Fish Market, etc. My wife had earlier felt very nervous about visiting Port Moresby, but we always felt safe and relaxed throughout the whole experience. Thanks to Daniel and Augustin, and our driver, we had a great day in Port Moresby.

Great introduction to Port Moresby. Our guide Samson (1) and our driver Samson (2) were excellent. We not only saw historical places relevant to PNG, but also how locals live by going to a settlement. Samson 1 was very knowledgeable and told us a lot about the city’s history along with being very personable. A great option for a day in Port Moresby

Lovely place, and people are friendly, have a market, battle of milne Bay, Turnbull War Memorial famous lookout, and east cape drive. Best stops

Fantastic day and great insight and knowledge. Dominic is a wonderful guide who was friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth doing a tour with Dominic to explore this beautiful area
