Orvieto Cathedral and Underground Caves TourJane_M, Sep 2026
Our tour guide Emmanuela...
Our tour guide Emmanuela a/k/a Emma was fabulous! She was so engaging and very interesting. She took the time to describe in precise detail the history of the Duomo and significance of the scenes depicted by the architect and the various artists whose work is displayed there. The tour of the caves was fascinating. We learned so much about the Etruscan ingenuity and their craftsmanship. The tour was amazing and I highly recommend it since the information we gained is beyond what one could learn from the available literature.

Good Time Above and Below!
The apertif was very nice. We tested a Chardonnay and a red. I bought the Chardonnay! The tour was amazing. Wear shoes with a good grip bc it’s very dusty on the ground and could be slippery. Our guide was very informative and passionate about the history. Great photo ops!

Fantastic tour and guide!
Our tour guide was fantastic! She knew the details, and stories and anecdotes, and delivered it all in a friendly casual way. It was like taking a walk through town with a good friend who knew all about it and shared the interesting and fun facts.

A Very Personable Vineyard
This was an excellent, informative, and relaxing experience. The hostess was knowledgeable about the wines that the vineyard produced, explaining each wine tastings, with accompanying cheeses. The tour itself was very personal; there were four of us, and we had the guide all to ourselves. We met the owner, his wife and two delightful children. Literally, it was a family outing!

Tour of the Duomo and underground caves
We had the most amazing tour with Emma - she was an incredible tour guide and we appreciate all the time she took with us to share the history and personal stories of the Duomo and Orvieto. It was a highlight of our trip and we hope to come back soon - thank you Emma!

Wonderful afternoon of good wine and good company
We were looking for a winery to tour on our drive between Siena and Rome and learned about the Madonna del Latte winery. The afternoon we spent there was one of our favorite experiences on this trip to Italy. Anna was a wonderful guide and hostess, and we loved meeting Leon and his family too. The wines and cheeses were delicious, and I left feeling relaxed and content. There was zero pressure to purchase anything, but I happily joined their wine club and look forward to receiving my shipment in the fall.

Exceptional Etruscan Experience with wine and appetizers
You are walking down a lot of steps to get to the cave and it is a little chilly. Our guide was so knowledgeable and passionate in explaining the details of the cave and her family’s history in finding the cave. After the exceptional tour you are treated to a beautifully set table. You are able to taste two local wines with a delicious plate of appetizers. Afterwards you are delighted with a delicious dessert. This tour, food and wine were amazing! We felt so very spoiled.

Winery Tour & Wine Tasting with Cheese & Charcuteriekim m, Jun 2026
Such a fun, educating, charming way to spend an afternoon!
Leon and Mary were so friendly and inviting! The winery is beautiful and Mary shared lots of info and history during the tour. The wines are all delicious (we took several bottles home!) and the local meat and cheese pairings were a wonderful added touch. Leon was a great host, visiting with us and sharing history of the original farm, the winery and surrounding land. We were there in the spring so they had chickens and baby bunnies that he showed us too! He even sent me home with some fresh eggs! Highly recommend visiting this charming family winery!

Amazing place, the best experience in the undergrounds of Orvieto.
The Pozzo della Cava was a true surprise.
I knew it was beautiful, but I never expected to appreciate it even more than the Pozzo di San Patrizio. Built in 1530 on earlier structures, it is not just a well, but a true archaeological complex in the depths of the city.
It consists of three underground levels, the central one characterized by seven communicating rooms from different eras, each with its own function.
It is very interesting to understand the origins of Orvieto's ceramic art, with the ancient kilns for firing, the pits for discarding poorly made items, the ancient furnaces, and the third firing chamber, called Muffola, made of concrete and tuff blocks.
Even more impressive are the last two rooms, used as tuff quarries, where the blocks for the construction of the above residential structures were extracted. You can see the rough walls and the holes where wedges were inserted to prepare the dimensions of the tuff blocks to be extracted, ultimately leading to the room used as a necropolis.
What can I say, a true journey through time and history, which I recommend not to miss when visiting Orvieto.
