Welcome to Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City, the capital and largest city of Oklahoma, sits nearly dead-center in this South-Central U.S. state. Founded during the famous April 22, 1889 land rush, the city earned the distinction of growing to a population of 10,000 within a few hours. When the U.S. Highway system was developed in the early 20th century, Oklahoma City became a major stop on Route 66 and later an important Interstate Highway transportation hub. Today the city hosts the only U.S. state capital building that is surrounded by working oil wells. Other highlights include the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, old Route 66 attractions, and great craft breweries.
