Welcome to North Dakota

North Dakota is a large, sparsely-populated Great Plains state dominated by agricultural land and open prairie. Most of the state’s 762,000 people live the largest cities: Fargo, on the state’s western border with Minnesota, and Bismarck, the capital city. Named for the Sioux people who once lived in the territory and called themselves Dakota or Lakota, the state has a deep Native American history. North Dakota geography varies from rolling prairies to river bottom and lake country, to the rugged Badlands formations in the western part of the state. Small towns, hearty farm-fresh foods, and outdoor activities like hiking, biking, camping, boating, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling are North Dakota hallmarks.
