Nara Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Very fun tour and a great way to move between all the sites in Nara. Our guide Robert had bikes and helmets ready for us and made sure we were comfortable before setting off on the lovely ride. He gave us flexibility to visit the sites at our own pace, explained history and culture, and took lots of photos of us. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great day and got to our train on time.My only "complaint" is that the meeting location was a bit tough for our cab driver to find. Trust Google Maps. It was right, even if it looks like you're being dropped off in the woods. You're not!Highly recommend this tour and Robert.

We were supposed to go on tour an hour later, but the night before we got a message asking if we could go earlier, with an electric bike instead of a normal one. Of course, we immediately said yes to that.The next day, upon arrival (10 minutes before the scheduled start of the tour), it appeared that the tour had already left. Eventually we had to wait about 40 minutes before a guide arrived. This was clearly due to the organization and not to our guide Christophe.Because once on the road it was a really fantastic tour! Christophe was super knowledgeable, fun and knew a lot to tell. Highly recommended, a pity only about the bad start by the organization.

Great day with our bike tour guide Matheus! We loved the deer park. The Big Budda temple is wonderful to see. Next time we are in Japan we will see you again in Kyoto. Thank you!

We had a terrific experience on this tour with our guide, Robert. The biking was great, the sights (and deer!) are beautiful and Robert added in a lot of extra facts and explanations that made the tour really interesting and enjoyable. He was also really patient with us at the knife shop stop :) which we recommend as a great place to buy a knife!

A very easy trip where we got to see a lot of Nara, and got a lot of history by the guide.We were lucky and were the only ones on the trip that day, so we felt extra well taken care of.There was a little cycling, so the trip is recommended to those who have some experience with cycling from before.

I was surprised that the starting destination is in a suburb of Nara. It was actually pretty cool to see a residential area in addition to seeing the Deer Park and tourist sties.

Matheus was an excellent guide. Bikes were ready for us. In good condition. The route was well thought out and very manageable (we are in our 70's). Our guide supplied rice crackers to feed the lovely deer. Communication before meeting was excellent & helpful thank you.

Christophe made sure that we had the correct size of bike and safety helmet. He guided us safely and we had flexibility to stop when we wanted for photos. Had a great tour with Jean in mid March. He was super knowledgeable and we felt very safe on the bikes with him as our guide. Beautiful way to see Nara!

An awesome way to experience Nara! While many people simply get off the train and walk a few blocks to see the Nara Deer, biking gives you the ability to truly have an experience of seeing so much more of what Nara has to offer, namely the largest Buddha, Kasuga-Nashi, the Kikuich Cutlery (formerly a maker of samurai swords) and generally the ancient history of Nara! Biking was moderately challenging in spots, but you can walk on those moments of needed. Naturally, the highlight was getting to feed the deer and learning how to engage with them so as to have them bow before getting a snack. Sebastian was really great at showing us the way!

Let me just say that even before the tour was going to start, my son and I got lost and mixed up at various stations, and then stuck in traffic when we chose to take a cab.Regardless, we let Matheus know and he was the most accommodating tour guide I have ever met. Not only did he allow us to start the tour late, but also allowed us to swap the cross bikes with e-bikes.Based on what my son said, Matheus was a very knowledgeable guide that provided insights on every stop they took. He was patient, understanding, and most of all, very personal as we learned a lot about him, as well as Nara.I would easily recommend this tour, and if possible, give a 10/5 because I think he deserves it that much. A real guided experience delivered by experts who tells and shows you hidden secrets and spots in the town. I loved it!! The only attention point is the office distance from Nara Park and metro station.
