Welcome to Mammoth Lakes

Mammoth Lakes is a mountain resort town situated on the eastern slope of California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains where some of the highest peaks in the West fall to the Nevada desert country. A mining and logging camp settled by Europeans in 1877, Mammoth Lakes is now home to Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort. Only 32 miles south of the eastern entrance to Yosemite National Park, the town is an outdoor sports mecca known for hiking, downhill and cross-country mountain biking, rock climbing, and high-altitude athletic training. The area also features interesting geology including hot springs, a soda springs, an obsidian dome, and saltwater Mono Lake with its strange limestone towers.
