Lafayette Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Celebrated a friends birthday with 5 friends. The food was delicious. Our bus driver and tour guide, Jay, was the best. He informed us of very interesting facts about the origin of the food we would be tasting on the way to each restaurant. Highly recommend Cajun Food Tours.

One of the best things we did in on our Road Trip. A great way to experience a little bit of Lafayette and Cajun Culture / Food. We went to places we would not have necessarily chosen / known about and tasted some really lovely food. Even the kids enjoyed the experience even though they were a bit worried about what food they would get! Whitney was brilliant - very knowledgeable and full of fun to make the tour even better. We were a small group which was nice. I would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to experience Cajun food in the best places in Lafayette.

We spent a morning at the Vermilionville site and came out enchanted. The explanatory panels are in French, which allows for a good understanding of the region's history. We went there during the week and 2 actors spoke to us about their characters (one of whom spoke in French!). Don't hesitate to eat at "La Cuisine de Maman," the restaurant on site. The daily menu at $15 is perfect (gumbo as a starter, daily dish, dessert of the day, drink). Restrooms at several points on the site. A shop with some interesting products.

Very well done with a number of building to explore decorated with artifacts enhancing the overall feel of days gone by. Most of the houses and buildings are air conditioned making it helpful if you need a break from the heat. There is a lot of shade on the walking trails but can still get quite hot. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours here. Closed on Mondays and last entry into the park is at 3.

This was an excellent walking tour! The narration was both informative and funny. Directions were easy to understand and the map was well laid out.

Our tour guide Cassie was awesome. She was very well versed on the history and culture of Lafayette and Southern Louisiana. Extremely informative and pleasurable tour. Highly recommended!

Great afternoon and our tour guide, CASSIE was the best!. Shared sooo much history of this area, that we both knew little of prior to our visit. She even shared a great list of things available to do and see while we are here! Glad we scheduled a guided walking tour!

Was a great experience. Learned a lot about Baton Rouge. Looking forward to visiting the sites that were on the tour. I went on a Monday and most sites were closed. I did go to the observation deck in the state house. The view was incredible.

This has been such a fun thing to do with the boys and get them out of the house (and away from the video games 😵‍💫) The weather is beautiful and the boys have now learned that “Maison” means “house” in french…We’re going to grab food at Raising Canes and then head to the old governors mansion, thank you again for such a fun way to explore Baton Rouge! ❤️

Great experience! The two hours quickly turned into, 3+ with many items we missed still lingering in our heads! We highly recommend!

This was a great experience filled with interesting places, historical facts and great photo opportunities. Everything was in walking distance and took about 2 hours.We had so much fun that we repeated the activity in New Orleans with the same good experiences.Scavenger Hunt is a great way to learn about a city and involve others in your group of friends and travel partners.

Had a wonderful time on the scavenger hunt! It was cool having interesting little details pointed out to us through trivia as we were guided around downtown. I brought friends from out of town and will certainly do it again!

What a fun way to see a city you have already visited or a great way to start your visit. Directions and challenges were clear.

We recently went on the Original Cajun Food tour. The occasion: our grandson (from Kentucky) was in town and even though he has grown up visiting us, now that he is older, he wanted to experience more food unique to our area. And it was our very first food tour! We have lived in Lafayette for 43 years, and I learned so much about how our food became unique. Be sure and come hungry because you will be stuffed when you finish. Marie was our guide and she gave us a great history behind the foods and also told us some unique stories. It was SO much fun! We traveled in a comfortable van, and as we traveled to each venue, Marie pointed out various places, some historical, about the area. We were given bottled water and had the option to purchase different beverages at each stop. We also were given some nice souvenirs to bring home. We were given ample time at each stop to eat, go to the restroom.

We had a fabulous time visiting five local eateries. Our friends from out-of-state really enjoyed the Cajun cuisine. Our driver, Jay, filled us in with lots of local information which was very interesting.
