Welcome to Kansas

Kansas is a Central U.S. state, with the geographic center of the 48 contiguous states located near the small town of Lebanon. After statehood in 1861, Dodge City in south-central Kansas became the east-bound railroad shipment hub for cattle driven up from Texas. Called the Cowboy Capital of the World, the town gave birth to many legends of the Old West and the exploits of gunfighters like Wyatt Earp. Kansas offers abundant outdoor attractions including the Flint Hills, with the continent’s largest remaining tract of natural tallgrass prairie, and many lakes, rivers, and state parks. Kansas City, split by the Missouri River from Kansas City Missouri to the east, is famous for blues music and great barbecue.
