Hofn Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Highly recommend this experience, one of my highlights on my trip to Iceland! The guides were so knowledgable about glaciers and ice caves. Getting to see them in real life was jaw dropping. We got very clear instructions on how to wear the crampons which helped a lot on the ice and are easy to walk in. We felt very safe and even got professional photos taken of us with no extra charge!

Magical! The lagoon is beautiful and unlike any other kayaking experience I’ve ever had! Our guides were knowledgeable and friendly. This is a must do during your trip to Iceland.

I was skeptical of this being a good day due to the rain, wind, and cold temps. Instead, this turned into the biggest highlight of my Iceland trip. Fantastic outing with a great guide, and I get to tell everyone that I climbed a freaking glacier. What a refreshing, triumphant experience!

A little in the strenuous side, but a lifetime memorable experience! Our guide (from Slovakia) was fabulous!! Her patience, kindness, professionalism and respect for nature is incomparable. Her name escapes us, Marissa?

Kish and Rich are super professional and knowledgeable, they took care of everything and making our canyoning experience safe and enjoyable.We were unsure and nervous about getting into icy water at first but the wetsuit kept us warm the whole time. We had prior canyoning experience but those were mostly cliff jumping and sliding, little did we do rappelling before this tour. This was the first time we try rappelling so extensively. We were a bit scared at first but Kish & Rich were very patient and explained the techniques and safety precautions in great details, we were so proud of ourselves for having descended down the tall cliffs!It was so fun and was such a unique experience to immerse yourself in the spectacular Iceland scenery! 4 hours flew by quickly without us even realizing! The group size is small so you are being taken good care of (we were lucky enough to be the only group of the session and got a private tour!). Be sure to book in advance!

Worth it! Guides are super efficient, very knowledgeable. The place is amazing, definitely off the beaten track and I know what I say since I’m guiding in Iceland too. It isn’t cold as we got thick neoprene. Their gear is in good shape. Plus, it is a small company definitely better idea to go with them to the glacier for example than with huge operators.

We enjoyed this tour with our two children while traveling in Iceland and it was an absolute highlight! Meet-up at Glacier Lagoon was very easy and our guide (Guillermo) explained the process to us every step of the way so we knew what to expect. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the glacier and history of the area and took time to answer all of our questions. He was even super kind to our 10 year old who is a chatterbox and had all sorts of questions (beyond glacier-related topics). The tour definitely requires a decent degree of fitness, stamina, and ability to follow instructions to stay safe on the ice. Thank you so much Guillermo and Ice Explorers - we had the best time!

Based on the comments, one of them scared us saying that the lake would be very crowded, not at all, very far from reality. There were only the 12 of us who started the activity at the same time, and that was at the end of July. Also, we thought we weren't going to see icebergs, and there they were. And the views are spectacular. Hats off to the guides as well. Thanks for everything.

One hour two person kayak with Daniel delivered get experience that included photos and up close iceberg views. Long wait between kayak and hike (2 hours), which allowed for lunch and walk to diamond beach. 30 minute van ride to glacier before hour plus hike with Thor. A blue cave was accessible, although small, but Thor took us to “the top” for great views and pics. He also provided extensive information about the glacier.

We did both the kayak and glacier hike tours. The kayak tour of icebergs in the lagoon were a beautiful sight to be up close. It was relaxing! The glacier hike was amazing. Our guide Þóris was exceptional! His knowledge and love of the glacier and natural landscape around was great to learn. The hike was fairly easy and very different from the other glacier hikes. We loved it! They did give you 1.5 hrs in between both to eat(food and bathrooms avail) as well as a walk across the street to Diamond beach. Great day!

What an adventure. I highly recommand Local Guide. Our guide was awesome. Since the caves weren't as extraordinary as usual, Mike took the time with our small group (about 11 people) and brought us to two small caves, we had a nice hike on the glacier. He taught us a lot about the region. The tour that was expected to last 3 to 4 hours lasted 5 hours. That was definitely a great experience

Experience to do absolutely if you come to Iceland, unforgettable. Beautiful tour, very nice and professional guide. Highly recommended.

Breathtaking icy wilderness scenery, informative and clear guided tour, and stunningly beautiful ice caves! Absolutely an unforgettable experience.

Yurin and Grudic were great. They really made the experience. My 8 year old was able to do everything and had a blast with the guides. Because of weather the 4-6 hour glacier-ice cave tour changed to be a 3-4 hour. But it was wonderful. The company was fair and reimbursed us some of the isk back. Very fair and still a cherished memory and adventure.

This was honestly a once in a lifetime experience and it was a lot of fun. We had an amazing tour guide Mice, he was informative about the glaciers and the area. He was humorous too!
