Ferrara Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

I was in Ferrara for a day and didn’t know what to do. I decided to go on this walking tour in the hope I would see the best parts of the city. It did not disappoint!! The walking tour was really good, it’s definitely worth buying a walking tour when you go to a new city. It took me to all the really cool places and quirky looking streets with the historic stories along the way. Very very picturesque. I’ve been to a cathedral (beautiful), a castle which was surrounded by a moat, this cemetery which is like nothing I’ve ever seen, the market town and a botanical garden amongst other things. I’ve done it all at my own pace, not rushed it and even sat in a pretty garden in the sun. It’s been a chill, but quite an adventurous day. What a great tour! Thank you.

Definitely, the highlights of our trip in Northern Italy! As restaurant owners from Seattle, we arrived with high expectations for authentic tastings and culinary knowledge, and our tour guide exceeded every single expectation!! She was friendly and deeply passionate about italian cuisine, epsecially the one of this region: she shared incredible inspiration on how to use cured-meats and Parmigiano, how to make fresh pasta and especially the pastisio of maccaroni. We learned also many differences between the food traditions of Ferrara, Modena and Bologna. Next time we will do also a food tour in Modena to learn more about the food of Emillia! The walking tour through the historic city center was relaxed and enjoyable. If you are staying in Ferrara for few days, this tour is essential: the guide gave us top recommendations for where to eat, have a typical aperitiv, and what to visit. Wheter you're just passing by Ferrara for a day or spending several nights in the city, this tour is perfect and you can add it as MUST-DO on your trip!

Our family visit to Ferrara was an excellent experience. We enjoyed outstanding food, with high-quality dishes that truly reflected the local cuisine. Our guide, Matteo, was extremely cordial and helpful, and his professionalism greatly enhanced the overall visit. Our driver Marco picked us up at our hotel on time and gave us information about our trip to Volterra and on to San Gimignano. The van was cool and comfortable and we enjoyed the entire trip.

Elisa was a wonderful guide for our extended tour of Estense Castle. She is extremely knowledgeable about art, history, and especially the wonderful city of Ferrara. And best of all, she is a lot of fun! Highly recommended.
