Evora District Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

This can be one of the best marble 101 lessons ever! Thanks to João’s professional, enthusiastic, and fun storytelling and knowledge sharing, we were able to take a peak at the marble world and learn a lot compared to knowing nothing at the start. The tour is eye opening and absolutely one of the highlights during our time in Portugal;)

Recardo is a very knowledgeable tour guide. He is easygoing, answer all our questions.

We had a very informative insight into marble. We started in a classroom type of location to learn how marble exists in the region and the different types of marble found in the area. We were then taken to 3 open mines to see how the marble is extracted. As it was Saturday afternoon there were no workers so it was not dusty or noisy. The scale of the mines were incredible. Our guide Joao treated us to a local song which resonated in the mine. He is an excellent singer. He then drove us to the processing plant where the marble slabs were cut into more manageable pieces and ranked for sale.

Very enjoyable walking tour of estremoz . We started at the Pousada where we were staying and our guide Joao arranged for both the church and the chapel to be opened for us to see. He explained about the 3 dynasties that were involved in the history of Estremoz. He also told us of the specialties and crafts local to the area and showed us beautiful architecture. We finished the tour at the market place and as it was Saturday morning there was a bustling market in action.

Margerida and her assistant Vasco were excellent tour guides. We had previously visited a cork factory so seeing and hearing the farmers perspectives rounded out our understanding of the cork industry. This farm combines Cork oak & Holms oak trees plus a vineyard and a small herd of locally bred cattle. The diversity seems to make the farm more sustainable. Very interesting to learn about the harvesting process of cork. Thanks to Margerida & Vasco for an enlightening morning.

Great experience! Fun ride, nicely paced, very educational. The cork forests and vineyards are obviously well-cared for in a sustainable way by passionate stewards. Our guide Ricardo (#2) was charming and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Very informative. The guides were excellent. My only negative the cork tile I bought turned out to be double the price at other locations. Everything else was supper

Professionalism and excellent organization

We were looking for a cork farm tour while visiting Evora and found only this tour for our dates. It was a perfect choice. Micaela was our guide who was super friendly and knowledgeable. Her English was very easy to understand. We now understand the whole cork farming process as well as prickly pears. We enjoyed sampling some products at the end of our tour and purchased some as unique gifts from Portugal. This experience more than met our expectations!

We had an incredible time on this tour. The scenery was beautiful and the information was very interesting.Our guide Ricardo, was very friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. Also funny. Also very patient but firm with the transmission of the vintage Land Rover.We will definitely recommend this experience to family and friends.Thank you.

Even though I had booked the walk in the forest tour, we were driven in a small suv to the orchards/vineyards. We got out of the vehicle in a few places. Here we learned about how the vineyard started and all about the holm and cork oak trees. The driving tour actually worked better for our group. Our guide Ricardo was fantastic. He was knowledgeable and funny. We new nothing about the cork trees and the cork industry. After this tour we had a much better understanding. We also did the wine tasting that had cheese and presunto, delicious. Next we had a 4 course lunch at a local restaurant. We throughly enjoyed our day with Corktrekking!

Ricardo, our guide gave us an excellent overview of cork harvesting as well as information about the wine production. We learned about the holm oaks and their relationship to the cork trees.

Very informative; beautiful location

We greatly enjoyed our experience! Our guide shared with us several information about cork harvesting and local agriculture. The hike allows you to observe a typical landscape of the Alentejo. We highly recommend!

It was a wonderful route with Joaquina Peixinhos. The visit is complete and full of information. An absolutely unrivalled guide to get to know Estremoz, and the history of Portugal is totally worth it.
