Chatham Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

This was a really interesting 90 minute tour of the filming locations for CTM. Led by the brilliant Irene who was our ‘midwife’ guide, the group were shown many of the external locations together with details of how buildings were ‘transformed’ for the purposes of filming the series. It does not however have internal sets but there is a small ‘museum’ with set ups of the dining room at Nonnatus House, the Buckles’ shops and lots of items and costumes from the show. Really enjoyable especially if you are a fan of the series

The guide, Helen was excellent. Her knowledge was so good and she completely made the trip for us. It was great seeing all the places where they did the filming. All very clecer

We had a very good experience despite the heavy rain. The guide was very informative and she adapted the schedule to enable us to be under cover as much as possible. We look forward to revisiting some of the episodes and seeing Chatham Docks in a new light!

We had the best time on the Call the Midwife tour at The Historic Dockyard Chatham! Stephanie was our tour guide and she was absolutely amazing. She was so knowledgeable and clearly knew so much about the show and the history behind it, but she also made the whole tour really fun and entertaining from start to finish. She kept everyone engaged throughout and made the experience even more enjoyable. We laughed so much and came away having had such a lovely day. I would definitely recommend the tour, and if you’re lucky enough to get Stephanie as your guide, you’re in for a brilliant time! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wonderful day, guide was amazing and had so much knowledge and was obviously a true fan of the show, she was enthusiastic and friendly, definitely worth the money and my Mother in law loved it, it was a gift for her 80th Birthday last year

Best thing about this tour was our fantastic host! She had been a nurse and knew so much about the series, the storylines, the cast, the locations and the dockyard. Absolute wealth of knowledge and was brilliant at interacting with us as a group, making it fun and engaging! Thanks Helen! 😊Tour itself is a location tour, not a set tour, but you could definitely identify different areas from the show. There was a little gift shop that sold lots of show memorabilia etc and a fantastic exhibition that is only accessible if you book a tour. You cannot access that by purchasing a dockyard ticket only. All bits in the exhibition had been used on the show.They take a photo of you in the exhibition part and give you one free download. You also have the option to purchase more, where they morph you into different sets from the show like the haberdashery or Fred's shop.It is a good hour and half in total but there is a lot of walking. I would suggest comfortable shoes and a drink to keep you going.

My wife loved it as a massive fan and I enjoyed it without knowing anything about it. Very interesting and informative. Thank you

This was a fantastic, informative tour of the outside locations used for Call the Midwife at Chatham Historic Docks. The ticket price includes entry into the Historic Docks which is also well worth looking around. Our 'midwife' tour guide was knowledgeable and funny when showing us pictures taken during filming. She had stories to tell and was able to tell us about how the changes are made to make buildings look like tenements etc. Following the outside tour we were given entry into a locked building to see some of the costumes and pieces of set used by the film studio. Then our picture was taken and superimposed onto the Call the Midwife title page and Fred's shop along with other scenes. There are 2 free snaps and then the opportunity to download more. This was well worth the visit and made me want to watch the shows all over again.

Thus is my 3rd time going. And each time the guide was very informative and kept the tour interesting. The family I went with this time is getting into the series. And enjoyed the tour. It's seeing how they put the series together

Bought as a present, experience was great, tour lasted an hour and a half, lots of interesting information was given as we went around , thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

A great tour. Detailed explanations of how the various areas are used in the program and good illustrations using photos. There were also references to how other programs and films have used the premises. The guide (Helen) was very impressive speaking clearly and fluidly. Her detailed knowledge of the program and individual episodes shone through - a class act.

If you enjoyed the tv series you will enjoy the Call the Midwife tour. Our 'midwife' tour guide was very knowledgeable and led us around part of the Chatham Docks site showing us where particular scenes were filmed and shared interesting anecdotes. The bonus exhibition was well worth a look.

Although not a watcher really enjoyed the informative and interesting Call The Midwife Tour. Also enjoyed visiting the submarine and HMS Ocelot. With annual ticket will visit again as so much to see in one day.

The host was an extra on the series and was simply incredible. It was a real treat to see the ‘call the midwife’ locations through the eyes of an expert. Her subject knowledge was beyond compare and delivery out of the top drawer. Any fans would love this experience. Added bonus of dock tours and excellent eating and rest facilities.
