Welcome to Ashland

Ashland, the famed Southern Oregon art town, lies along Interstate 5 just north of the California border. Originally established in 1852 around a water-powered sawmill that served early settlers, the town later became the site of the Ashland Woolen Mills, which used local wool to make clothing and blankets. Now Ashland ranks among the top 10 small U.S. art towns because of its world-famous Oregon Shakespeare Festival that grew out of performances arranged for a 1935 Fourth of July celebration. Many historic buildings are preserved in this walkable town, and the surrounding mountains and forests offer every outdoor sport from skiing to some of country’s best whitewater rafting.
