We loved that we were on private land which made the experience more unique and intimate. We did the hike in water shoes and while I do think hiking boots would have helped, we were fine. The experience was well worth the hike. The tour guides were very friendly, funny, and knowledgeable.

I loved the experience, but it was a bit physically challenging for me. My 19 year old son had no problem with the hike, but I struggled and needed to take the hike at my own pace. I liked that there were guides who stayed at the end of the group to make sure no one stayed behind. Once we got to the river, we had a blast. The guides did a great job of finding animals hidden in the rocks to show us. The instructions were very clear about what to wear, what to bring, and how wet we would get. I would definitely recommend this trip to others but would warn them the hike can be challenging. And I would definitely go on this trip again, but would get in better physical condition before going.

I'm glad that I was able to experience this adventure with my family. I have lots of videos and pictures of this tour to remember for life. Great adventure at a great price! Definitely a must do experience while visiting the island.

What an amazing experience! You’ll definitely get your steps in, but the pace is not rushed, the water is refreshing, the guides are funny, informative, and kind - and the scenery simply stunning. Definitely book this - it’s a lovely time, great break from the beach and city, and will easily be the one thing my teens remember the most fondly from this trip.

Was an amazing experience! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the experience not only memorable but very educational. The hike there and back was a lil challenging but absolutely worth it!! Will absolutely do this again !!!

Hike to the tubing starting point is Cave tubing was an amazing experience! Our group included kids and a few people who weren’t strong swimmers, but everyone was able to enjoy it without any issues. The guides made us feel safe and comfortable throughout. Be sure to bring some snacks and a good waterproof bag, as you’ll definitely get wet!

We had an amazing time on the Tanama River Cave Tour with tubing! Our guide, Manuel, was incredibly knowledgeable, funny, and made the entire experience so much fun from start to finish. He shared interesting information about the caves and the river while keeping the group entertained the whole way. The scenery was beautiful, the tubing was relaxing, and exploring the caves was unforgettable. Manuel truly made our day, and we couldn’t have asked for a better guide. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Puerto Rico!

This experience was epic — beautiful, adventurous and absolutely worth it. Here’s what to expect and what I wish I had known beforehand.You’ll meet your guides near the Arecibo Observatory. Arrive at least 20 minutes early. We arrived 15 minutes early, were the last car there and departed almost immediately. From the meeting point, you’ll follow the guides another 10–15 minutes into the mountains, where there is no cell service. AGAIN, BE EARLY.After parking, you’ll ride in the back of a pickup truck for about 10 very bumpy minutes. Then the real adventure begins: a short, steep walk uphill followed by a longer, very steep descent to the river. Remember that hill—you’ll be climbing it again at the end.You’ll spend roughly 75% of the excursion in the water, essentially walking upstream before floating back down in tubes. The water ranges from ankle-deep to chest-deep, with some swimming, where you’ll get out and be walking through narrow passages and small caves. Expect uneven rocks, creek beds and constantly changing footing.The landscape is spectacular. The Tanamá River winds through a dramatic limestone canyon surrounded by dense subtropical forest. Parts of the river pass beneath and through limestone caves formed by centuries of flowing water, including areas with stalactites and stalagmites.The guides pace the river hike well, allowing plenty of time for breaks, pictures and enjoying the scenery. After hiking about 1.5 miles upstream, you’ll get into tubes and float back through the calm current. This was my favorite part—you can finally look up and appreciate everything you missed while concentrating on your footing.What to bring and wear: 1. Bring plenty of water and snacks. We each drank two bottles of water plus half a Gatorade. You’ll be shaded by the forest canopy, but it is still a long and active day. I was fine with a granola bar while my kid inhaled trail mix and jerky.2. Use a waterproof dry bag. You will swim in places, so assume everything you carry will get completely wet.3. Choose your shoes carefully, but you can’t win. Do not wear sandals. Water shoes keep rocks and sand out but provide less cushioning. Sneakers offer better padding and grip, although they will fill with sand and may be ruined afterward. I went with water shoes and it was fine, but I did feel every rock. My kiddo wore sneakers and had sand inside throughout the trip.14. Wear a long-sleeved rash guard or swim shirt with shorts. The river water is cold, and I regretted wearing only a bikini top. You’ll also wear a life jacket and helmet throughout the excursion.5. You won’t need a hat, sunglasses or much sunscreen because you spend very little time in direct sun. We also encountered no mosquito problem beneath the canopy.6. At the end, you’ll climb that steep hill again. It takes roughly 10 minutes and is a beast—but completely manageable. The guides need time to reload the tubes, so there is no rush. Walk 20 steps, pause and repeat.7. My watch recorded approximately 3.4 miles of walking (but the floating was included in this) and 900 feet of elevation gain. It never felt excessively strenuous because the river portion is slow and measured. I’m a normal 45-year-old, and our 12-year-old and 17-year-old nephew both did great. The final climb is the hardest part, but you can take your time. I’d say do not let the physical part scare you - no need to be a mountain climber, just able to walk and stand for 3 hours and make it up one crazy steep hill at the end! You’ve got this!8. One final consideration: there is no regular cell service. The guides have specialized communication equipment, but anyone who requires reliable phone access for medical monitoring should discuss that with the operator beforehand.Overall, this was one of the most extraordinary experiences we had in Puerto Rico: part river hike, part cave exploration, part tubing trip and entirely unforgettable. 10/10. Just be prepared and you’ll have a spectacular experience!!!

Wonderful experience. Hike was a little challenging but worth it. Tour guides were excellent. Worth seeing this part of Puerto Rico.

This wasn’t a 6 hour tour. We started around 9am and were done by 12:30 and that is because the river was low and the tubing was very slow. I got stuck on rocks multiple times while “floating” down the river. The tubing was an hour long and the rest of the time is hiking and wading through the water. Some guides take more pics than others, and I know that because you are sent everyone’s pictures from that day in a link. They loaf you up in pickup trucks and it’s very uncomfortable and you end up on top of people you don’t even know going up and down the hills. Then you hike up a pretty big hill, but nothing is worse than coming back the hill is long and the incline is so steep they have a rope to help you get up. My legs were super sore after. It’s pretty slippery trying to go up and down getting to the river. They will let you borrow a dry bag to put your snacks. We wore really good water shoes and were fine. Couldn’t image wearing sneakers with socks and walking wet for hours. It was beautiful but they have about 60-70 people on the tour and the only people that get pics without tons of people in the background is the first group and last group. We had fun, but my family of 5 (10y-41yrs) enjoyed the el Yunque tour much more. And we did the $25pp el Yunque tour verses the $110 pp cave tour.

Ok nice in a life time experience. Hiking then tubing through the limestone canyon was beautiful. The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. They took many pictures of us that we received at the end. The hike down into the canyon and back may be difficult for young, old or out of shape. Also be prepared for a very bumpy ride in the back of a truck. But 10/10 a must do experience

Cave tubing is a MUST DO! The tour guides are absolutely positively phenomenal from stopping to pick apples off of a tree and carve them for everyone to teaching us the historical items to ensuring we had the absolute best time. They do provide pictures for you so don’t feel pressured to take your phone. Water shoes or tennis shoes are a must just make sure you’re wearing something that you don’t mind to get dirty. There will be mud lots of mud involved. Just embrace it. You will get to see phenomenal scenery, and even some cute little bats. By far, my absolute most favorite thing that I did during my trip.

Amazing experience with great tour guides. I recommend that to everyone but be sure you’re in good health and can walk long distances. There’s a hike and some hills. I’m glad we did it.

This is a MUST DO! I was born in PR, but have lived in the states most of my life. My family and I visit PR each summer. We have the opportunity to do many local things and also do at least one excursion each summer. This is hands down the best and most unique excursion we have ever done. It was equal parts adventurous, fun, and relaxing. The guides were patient, knowledgeable, funny, and kind. We felt safe the entire time and learned some things about the island and its history. It is an extremely well thought out excursion - well organized and definitely worth the cost!

We had a great time! I almost didn't book this due to the description and unclear itinerary so I am going to lay it out for you. You don't have to be an elite athlete to compete this experience. You do have to be in reasonable physical shape. If you can do four flights of stairs or run a mile you will be fine. Not suitable for folks that are total couch potatoes or have mobility or balance issues. We met the guides at a roadside meeting place, and followed them to a parking area. From there, loaded into trucks with many people riding in the truck bed. I was told they transported us this way further than normal due to risk of rain. Your experience may be different in this respect. From there we hiked a fairly steep hill up and over a ridge. It is quite steep, particularly on the return trip but on a road so not technical at all. Once you reach the river, you wade up for a fair distance. Stopping along the way to explore. It is BEAUTIFUL! My recommendation would be to bring a small backpack type dry bag for your lunch. You can leave a change of clothes in your car. There is a place to rinse off and change. Lunch is on a sand bar, and nothing is provided. Bring a normal amount of food and water for a 6 ish hour excursion. After lunch you float back down on tubes. It's pretty relaxed and fun! Then the hike back up and over the ridge. I highly recommend this excursion, the guides are fun the scenery is beautiful and you will get to know a little piece of the Puerto Rico wilderness.
