Holyhead Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Fantastic day with our knowledgeable guide David. This was our first time in Wales and we are so glad we spent the day on this tour. We have to come back and take more time to see all these sights!

This was a great tour. David, our tour guide was excellent. Our only comment is we would have liked more time in both towns. I’m not sure you can do an 8 hour tour, and I’m not sure we would have signed up for such a long one, but we did so enjoy, we would like more time. Or we would have eliminated the funicular, although very nice, the villages were the highlight. But we highly recommend. And the tour operator stayed in touch with me from the time I signed up until we were on the van. We also appreciated the small group. Thank you Pilar and David!

We really enjoy booking the smaller group tours for our port calls and were not disappointed with this one. The small bus was the perfect size for the small group of 16 for the day, we were able to see everything as described in the tour and a couple of other quickies too! David the guide was extremely knowledgeable with extensive knowledge of Wales and our stops. Allen the driver was fast and safe! If you are in Wales, I definitely recommend seeing it with a smaller group, way more flexible and a lot more personal attention than booking the experience with a big bus. Top Tours and Cool Destinations did good with this one!

The group was very attentive to our issues in debarking the ship which resulted in a 45-minute delay. David was a great guide in his explanations and stories. He regrouped the schedule and got us to our sites in a timely fashion. Our time in Conwy was necessarily shortened by we had time to explore. The tramway was a fun experience and the views from the top of the Olm were amazing. We chose not to go into Caernarfon Castle but enjoyed the exterior views and the shops. Allen, our driver, navigated some tight areas. He was helpful and attentive to the needs of loading and unloading wheelchairs. I would highly recommend both of them.

We we're sent instructions about where to meet by the tour manager which were very helpful. Our guide, David met us as promised and we boarded a small, comfortable coach. We really enjoyed the castle and the surrounding town. The town of Conway was also a beautiful spot. We also got to see the town with the longest name. It was fun. Our guide David gave us some great insights to and info about the towns and surrounding areas, as well as some of the engineering feats it took to make them possible. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Our driver, Alan was great ad well. We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend it. The only issue I have is we had a time limit because we were on a cruise ship. I wish it were an hour longer.

We visited 2 very quaint towns. David, our tour guide, was extremely informative with lots of history information. A bit of positive feedback would be that it would be nice to have some breaks from the commentary, particularly on the return.

This tour was WONDERFUL! Hands down the best organized guided tour we’ve done in recent years. David - our guide - and Steven - our driver - could not have been better: knowledgeable, engaging and gave us excellent tips at each stop. The areas we visited were equal parts breathtaking and historically very interesting. We only wish we had more time everywhere but that was on us for not booking a longer tour!

David was a our tour guide and he did a terrific job. Because of the cruise ship schedule, our time was very tight. David fit everything in and got us back to the port in plenty of time. He was very knowledgeable and shared many interesting facts about the area. We saw some beautiful areas, a few castles, and we rode a tram. Would definitely recommend this tour in Wales and David!

A lot to see in a short time frame, but it gave us a flavor of Holyhead and the Wales area, and a desire to go back and spend more time in the area. Transportation and tour guide was great. And the weather was in our favor.

David was a fantastic guide—friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about Welsh history and culture. We enjoyed exploring the medieval town of Caernarfon with its beautiful waterfront and views of the Menai Strait, walking the remarkably well-preserved streets and walls of Conwy, and taking in the spectacular scenery from the historic Great Orme Tramway. David shared fascinating stories throughout the day, kept the tour well organized, and made every stop engaging and memorable. We learned a great deal, saw some truly beautiful places, and would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting North Wales.

Perfect excursion to match our cruise ship port itinerary!! Even with tender delays , they waited an comunícate with us to let us lnow they would wait!!! The tour guide was superb!! We were on a mini bus. Don’t be afraid to book with this company, they are excellent!!!!

Great day w/ David. Best so far on our cruise we didn’t think we’d make it because of the weather but we kept in contact with Cool Destinations and they were very responsive. David was kind enough to wait an extra half hour for other passengers. The weather was extremely bad going in on the tender, so that was the reason for the delay. Regardless we did the entire tour and David even added an extra point of great interest on and got us back in plenty of time. I highly recommend this tour and again keeping in contact via the Cool Destinations app was so efficient. I recommend purchasing the tickets for Conway Castle. It’s worth exploring and getting some great pictures.

John communicated with us before the tour. Met him without issue. He had a great itinerary planned for us. Oggie Rolls and cheese board with beautiful views. His vehicle was very nice. Flexible with us and very accommodating. Would definitely tour with him again.
