Went with a group for a private Balsam tasing experience. The interior of the bar is beautiful, Medieval, clean and surprising in many ways. We entered the alchemist's cellar and were greeted by a wonderful young man who guided us through the experience. His knowledge of the English language, humour and timing were really good. There were so many layers to this experience and my group was so happy with everything. Plus, the Black Balsam tasted good too.

We were the only ones on the tour. The Guide was good, quite funny and explained all about the Black Balsam. Balsam and the truffle were very nice. Bought some biscuits on the way out, which came in a nice gift box and bag.

Reinis was a great host, he told us the story of his business producing pinecone products in great detail and never lost our interest, we got to try lots of different products with pine cones and learn about the benefits of eating pine cones.This is a great experience, we stayed in riga and this is definitely worth the travel from riga, the train was only around €2 and a bolt from the station was €7.The experience lasted for an hour, and afterwards we bought a lot of well priced and high quality products for ourselves and for gifts, not to mention the jam we got to watch be made and take home with us.Highly recommend this experience!

Such an amazing place this cafe/chocolate shoppe, a wonderful collection of delicious chocolates, coffees and Balzam delivered in a charming, eclectic setting, it’s not to be missed.Special shout out to Richard (pronounced Rikard), perhaps the most enthusiastic, informative host / manager of a business I’ve ever had the pleasure to encounter, this man knows his stuff when it comes to all things chocolate and Balzam and presents his knowledge in such a genuine, considerate manner, that enthrals and entertains, Black Magic is a ‘must visit’ if you find yourself in the old city, highly recommended

We had a lovely experience. The tasting was entertaining and we loved the little magical elements of it. Great fun!

We were keen to taste the Black Balsam and decided to visit this place to sample them all! The selection was the original Black Balsam followed by the black current version and then the cherry and finally the tropical. The black current was our favourite although the tropical came a close second.

Lots of fun, history and a bit of theatre tasting the local stuff. Secret rooms, cellars, ghosts, a little magic and a generous amount to taste.

Luckily, I had had some Balzam before as a co-worker of mine brought me some back from his work trip to Riga. Now, I got to do an exclusive Balzam tasting with my wife in the secret room. The host was brilliant as he was funny and charming. I think I was one of a few who loved this drink. However, it is more about the experience of trying something unique to only one country. I really recommend giving this a try as it is fun and well worth it.

We were given an excellent run down of the Black Balsan variations with time to savour. There were a couple of coffees and a delicious dark chocolate bite. We explored to ‘lab’ downstairs.

One of a kind bar. It travels you to Middle Ages. Looks really haunted with books moving. Staff follow the concept with their outfit

This was so fun! Our host, (Alina?) Was so amazing. She guided us through the tasting and told her really interesting stories about the property and about balsam. She did such a great job of facilitating the entire experience. Five stars is for her! I highly recommend this. It’ll be a very memorable experience and the balsam is very good! You taste five different ones plus some bonus tastings. The facility is very interesting with lots of cool things to look at.

I really enjoyed this tasting tour. The location serves both amazing chocolates and a wide range of cocktails using the Black Balsam liquors. The tasting tour was a lot of fun, Tatiana was a great guide to the history of the elixir and gave great recommendations on the cocktails. I enjoyed it so much I returned on a separate occasion to buy gifts and enjoy one of the many craft cocktails highly recommend!
