Encaustic painting workshops with Ezshwan Winding
Overview
I have the most experience in using the encaustic technique and teaching than other teachers in San Miguel de Allende. I can move from abstract to figurative painting to encourage and help students to create their own visions. Since the class is in my private studio, I have collections of materials and tools at their disposal. Because of my background in the arts, both as a teacher an exhibiting artist, I can guide and advise each person personally.

What To Expect
We have a short introduction to each other and a tour of the encaustic gallery, Then we move into the studio where I have the painting stations set up. The encaustic workshop will cover all the basics, including information about how to make paint, about the commercial paints and their applications, about supports, grounds and techniques: paint application, fusing, glazing, inscribing and mixed media approaches, safety, materials, demos of applying paint, glazing, fusing, How to get that smooth surface! I will demonstrate how to incorporate collage, create lines and texture. Special emphasis will be on how these techniques can be developed to create a unique encaustic language for each student. I will talk (and demo) about how to create the many layers, as well as some special techniques like inscribing. The first day we will take time to understand how the gas torches the perfect tool to move and fuse the layers of color. You will leave with at least one finished painting, usually more. The techniques are clearly explained and demonstrated. I give written notes.
