Salamanca Travel Guides (Updated October 2026)

Manuel was very knowledgeable, kind, patient and funny. He open his calendar to us and we went over the two hours that we were supposed to. He. showed us where we can have local drinks and food at a non-tourist price where our money would go longer way, which we really appreciate it. I highly recommend him for anyone that’s looking for the true Salamanca experience and it’s seeking someone that will take their time and tailor the tour to their desire without missing any of the highlights of The City.

Fair amount of cycling on quiet pedestrianised areas and cycle paths. Only a few uphill bits. Great host and bikes with gears

So many lovely stories and small things you may not notice as a tourist going it alone. Victoria was very good, engaging and obviously loves Salamanca

Ral was extremely knowledgeable about everything related to the battle and a genuinely kind person. I had read about the battle many times but gained profoundly new perspective by walking the area with Ral's narration. I paid for the tour as a solo traveller and still found it well worth the money and wish I had been able to do the Fuentes de Onoro tour. Finished the day on Greater Aripiles as the sun set for a great photo.

We loved the self paced tour. It took us 5 hours as we stopped fun brunch. It was interesting and had a great mix of history, fun facts and understanding of the city.

A fascinating experience. Raoul is extremely knowledgeable and his English is excellent. He took me on a journey through the situation before the battle, to the battle itself and even to what happened next. I was able to picture the day as it unfolded and to understand why things happened the way they did. My age (70) and fitness level were no barrier and I was able to visit all the locations on the tour. I would recommend this tour to anyone with the slightest interest in history, military or otherwise. I thoroughly enjoyed my day!

Four of us went on this walking tour today. We only had 24 hours in Salamanca and wanted to learn more about it and the couple of hours on the tour did that. We found it very interesting and went to areas in Salamanca we would not have found. Our guide was very informative and was open to questions. The pace of the tour was just right. Would highly recommend it.

To travellers of a certain, classically romantic, persuasion, the idealized vision of a Spanish city will take the form of something like a history-weathered Golden Age-era sandstone dream. Well, happily, this place exists not only in the imagination, but also for real, just not perhaps in the sun-baked South, but in the more chilly climes of the west-central Meseta. Equally serendipitously the only English-language guide in town is also the best, most knowledgeable and drollest one possibly anywhere in Castile. Martoke knows the streets of this venerable city of learning like the back of her hand, she is steeped in the archaic graduation rituals of this first university on Spanish territory, knows who Adares was, and can bang the drum for Salamanca’s (in the wider world) half-forgotten pedigree as historical incubator of revolutionary ideas from moral theology past astronomy to the Gregorian calendar all day. She’s also impeccable in at least four languages, fabulously entertaining, curious and just fantastic company. My stay, albeit brief, cemented Salamanca in my mental landscape as a dream destination, of a tangible kind, and that was above all thanks to her bringing it to life for me.
