Patagonia Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

Joaquin was an absolutely amazing guide + driver. The other guests ended up canceling so we were lucky enough to essentially get a private tour. He was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and we had a wonderful day. Petrohue falls is even more awe inspiring and beautiful as it looks, and you get gorgeous shots of volcán Osorno in the back. Would absolutely recommend this tour!

We had a wonderful day!! Our guide, Joaquin, was so friendly and provided a great history lesson about the whole area, it was very fascinating! We were there in the off-season so the tour was just my friend and I, awesome to see all of the spots sans the crowds. We weren’t able to see the entire volcano as it’s usually hard to see in the winter, but it was all still worth it!

Gerardo and Phillips were wonderful. So informative and fun to be with. Loved every minute.

Our guide and driver were fantastic! Our guide took us to the normal highlights, but also to some of the out-of-the-way places that have really stuck in our memories. We hiked on trails through wind shaped forests and down paths along the shore of the Magellan Straights. The restaurant he took us to for lunch over looked the Straight of Magellan and the food and cold refreshments were so good. We saw a lot in only 5 hours. Highly recommend this excursion.

From the first moment, the Rutas Outdoors team demonstrated an impeccable level of professionalism and organization. I felt safe during the entire ascent of the Villarrica volcano and they were always attentive to every member of the group. I want to especially highlight our guide, Juan Avilez, who made this adventure unforgettable. His experience, calmness, willingness, and motivation were fundamental for us to reach the crater safely. At all times he conveyed confidence, explained each step with patience, and was attentive to everyone's well-being, especially during the most demanding moments of the ascent and descent. Without a doubt, it was one of the best experiences I have had in the mountains. Reaching the crater of the Villarrica was a dream come true and a large part of that is due to the excellent work of Juan and the entire Rutas Outdoors team. I recommend them 100%. If you have the opportunity to do this adventure with Juan Avilez, don't think twice. Thank you very much!

This is an excellent tour of the national park! Our guide stopped at the impressive sights and we took pictures throughout the park. We were able to gaze at the beauty and to walk around in several places. The trip was exceptionally enjoyable, from the first animal sightings to walking around the lake. We had a great time and strongly recommend this tour, it is one you wont want to miss!

I really recommend Rutas Outdoors if you are looking the hike up Villarica volcano. The guides Miguel and Juan are really great guides. They made sure we were safe the entire time and took a lot of photos. The equipment was very good too. Thank you so much!

A really worthwhile, interesting and scenic trip - in a small group of only 8 and a comfortable bus. Our guide provide lots of information along the route and the timing was perfect. We saw all the intended sights in a relaxed manner, with plenty of opportunities for photos and also doing you own thing, at your own pace when we were at the sights. It was a very enjoyable day and fortunately we were not caught up with the much larger groups on the trips organised by the cruise line, which covered the same points at a much higher price. Definitely recommend this trip with GV Tours!

The excursion was outstanding – thanks to our great guide Eric and the driver Mr. Roberto. The organization was perfect, and we learned an incredible amount about Chile. Especially the waterfalls were very impressive, and Frutillar also delighted us. Highly recommended!

We did the private half day forest hike on new year's day. It was a very nice experience. We got to hike a part of Punta Arenas we wouldn't have gotten to without Manuel. The hike was about 3 miles total, with some short uphill stretches but because it's a private tour we were able to go at our own relaxed pace. We got to the top and sat for a snack (provided by our guide) while enjoying the beautiful views. All along the way Manuel shared valuable information about the regions history, customs, and nature. We then stopped for lunch at a local restaurant (also covered by our guide). This was overall a wonderful experience that we would highly recommend!

Very beautiful day in the company of Joaquin who was an attentive, kind guide with good explanations. Also leaves us space to enjoy the visits. Nothing to say, we recommend this magnificent excursion.

A good tour with the best duo that were Analia and Carlos. It exceeded the expectations we had. Totally recommended, a warm atmosphere, of a lot of learning, emotion, you can take it in English or Spanish, zero complaints. 10/10

I had a really great experience hiking Volcán Villarrica with Ruta Outdoors. They provide you with all the necessary equipment (backpack, shoes, snow pants, jacket, etc.), so you don't have to worry about much. We started the hike early in the morning, which allowed us to watch the beautiful sunrise from the mountain. Juan, the guide, was extremely experienced and very kind, always making sure I was okay, and explaining every part of the hike clearly. I felt safe at all parts of the hike, even though the terrain can be a bit challenging at times. Highly recommend this hike to anyone looking for an adventure. Gracias por una experiencia inolvidable :)

We had an amazing experience climbing Villarrica Volcano with Rutas Outdoor. They provided all the necessary equipment, which was high quality and well-maintained, and everything was organized very professionally from start to finish. On a day before they took from us the exact sizes and all was waiting for us at the climbing day ready to use. Our guide, Juan, was outstanding. He stayed with us the entire time, making sure everyone felt safe and supported. Even though we didn’t reach the summit, he handled the situation with great care and professionalism, always putting our safety first and keeping a positive attitude throughout. We truly felt taken care of the whole way. Highly recommended!

We just had an excellent day with GV Tours out of Puerto Montt. Ignacio led us to Petrohue Falls, Puerto Veras and Frutillar. He was most informative throughout our day, not just what we were seeing but also local insights. His skills at communicating are terrific. We had a great day.
