Invercargill Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

This tour was the highlight of my short trip to New Zealand. I was staying in Dunedin for the week but decided I needed to check out the highly recommended Catlins area and decided to do this trip from Invercargill to Dunedin. Jason was our driver and tour guide on this tour and there were only two others in the group so we had the whole day to explore and visit some amazing places. We witnessed beautiful scenery, wildlife, waterfalls and lighthouses, all with great commentary from our very knowledgeable guide. We were lucky to have great weather along the way but had to brave the gusty winds up on Nugget Point which was a bit of fun being nearly blown away. This is a one way tour (going either way on alternate days) and I would highly recommend it if you don't have a vehicle. Thanks again Jason, I really enjoyed the day.

Jason was a great, helpful and very entertaining driver replete with stories and the two hour journey passed in the blink of an eye. The van was very comfortable too.

After flying in to Invercargill and experiencing some especially harsh weather, Jason was a shining beam of positivity and sunshine!He picked me up at my hostel, exactly on time and even gave us the option to be picked up earlier (a few people didn’t respond to the email so this wasn’t possible). Despite some unexpected road closures and detours, Jason navigated us through and around all of it, and still got us to our accommodations in time for dinner.From the moment he picked us all up, to the scenic drive to Te Anau, Jason kept us informed, entertained and inspired. As an avid hiker myself, I was able to glean so much information and confidence from him about the Kepler track and all the surrounding areas.This was a standout experience and I feel renewed energy for the rest of my trip in New Zealand. As I was the only person to book the day's tour, Jason, my guide, made sure I had a good time. He tried to spot as many animals as possible. We saw sea lions, seals, dolphins and lots of native birds. Jason was really friendly, funny and a great photographer ;) The Catlins are stunningly beautiful, and we experienced all that the coastline had to offer. The waterfalls and temperate rainforests leading to them were stunning, too! Thank you, Jason!

What a way to start our holiday, best way to get a view is the riding experience to get there . Kent our guide was top bloke and why wouldn't he be when you do this for a living. No mud though as it's pretty dry but the cow sxxx made the trip more hilarious. Then when you get to the top the views are absolutely spectacular.

Excellent trip with wicked scenery, amazing value for money! Highly recommended getting out and doing this. 10/10

Jason was a fabulous tour guide, well informed and made the tour special for all of us. The weather was terrific and as a result, the whole day was a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend.

We booked a transfer from invercargill to te anau, but it was much better than a simple ride between destinations. Our driver, Jason, gave us a scenic tour full of information and stories that complimented the beautiful scenery. Highly recommended

We travelled from Invercargill to Te Anau with Cheeky Kiwi. As the weather was clear our driver Jason, a local from Te Anau, proposed to his customers that we take a slightly longer coastal route. We were all eager and in favour of taking up his suggestion. We were thrilled to take in the stunning coastal scenery, driving west towards the majestic Fiordland. We made several short stops in order to take full advantage of the experience. Jason was informative and helpful, a skilled driver. The transport vehicle was clean and comfortable. The communication regarding pick up times etc was clear and timely.

Highly recommended. Beautiful views and lots of fun. Felt very relaxed and unhurried. Kent was a great driver and host. Looking forward to trying the self drive activity next time we're in the area.

Done this activity with my boyfriend yesterday, for his birthday! That was just perfect! Even with some clouds and a bit of rain, the views are totally incredible and the activity is soooo much fun! Ken was extremely friendly. Would highly recommend it and would do it again !!!

It was a good experience overall in spite of the long wait for the replacement van. Thanks to our saviour Peter who drive us even for a short notice. This is my second time with Cheeky Travel and as always, the tour is great!

Some beautiful and breathtaking views along the route. Unfortunately not much wildlife seen, only seals. Great lunch stop fab burger! Jason was a Friendly and very helpful guide
