Haiti Travel Guides (Updated September 2026)

I visited Haiti for 3 nights in May 2026. I had a great time thanks to Augusnel. He offers a variety of services and tours. I highly recommend booking him if you plan on visiting Haiti.

Other travelers need to know that the drive and the horse ride to the Citadelle are an adventure . The horse ride was very challenging for me given that I have never ridden on a horse. However , our guides were very reassuring of our safety. Once we arrived at the Citadel we were so elated and impressed with the site that I forgot about the long journey . The Citadel is an unbelievable touristic site. I have never experienced anything like it. No other fortress in America can compare to it. Haiti has so much to offer to the world

Christina is great, she is super responsive in email and Whatsapp, and she arranged everything for me. I took the 2 days 1 night tour to Cap-Haitien from Santo Domingo. I'm writing here based on my personal experience, but despite some hiccups that happened during the trip, I would still recommend Christina and Destination Hispaniola if you are thinking of visiting Haiti from Santo Domingo, DR.During this trip, Georges is assigned as our local guide in Haiti. In the first day of the trip, Georges did a great job, picking us up at Dajabon bus station, helping with the immigration/border crossing so it’s seamless and fast.But on our trip up to the Citadel, we were harassed by the horse guy. They told us that the horses haven't been paid for and kept asking us for big tips along the way. Our Citadel guide, Wesley, didn't do anything about it…On the second day, pick up from hotel and city tour with Georges was great. But during border crossing getting into DR side, Georges kept asking us for more money to get us out from the queue faster. We were wondering that this didn't happen in the first day. There was a queue too on the first day, but Georges handled everything fine and didn't ask us for more money.I gave this feedback directly to Christina too and she took it well, and I hope this can be a constructive feedback to improve the service quality.Overall, I love our trip to Cap-Haitien: the city, the Citadel and Sans-Souci Palace are just amazing!

I was in PAP for a few days and decide to see more than the hotel. Vladimir was the driver and Pierre the tour guide. They picked me up on time, but other than expected with a motorcycle. Because of security reasons it was not possible to go everywhere. But Pierre knows exactly where are the save places in town and where you are better not going because of gangs and shootings. Most of the time we are driving around and I saw the real life in PAP and a few "sights" from the motorcycle but me spend also some time in an old sugar factory and have a cold drink. Pierre is a nice, very friendly guy - if I will ever go to Haiti again, I'm going to plan the next trip with Pierre.

Pierre is an excellent driver who speaks English well. Transport vehicle was a nice 4X4 with tinted windows and great A/C. I enjoyed visiting a few sites during my short trip including the museum, observatory and a beach hotel in Carrefour. I highly recommend Pierre’s company for transportation/ tour services because they provide well price customized services less expensive then most hotels. Pierre also provides professional invoices for services provided.

One word adventurous .... this was a great all terrain trip. The guides were attentive... for a small fee that is with it! The beauty of the natural landscape is unforgettable! I really recommend this experience. There is a bit of hiking. Definitely wear water shoes and be prepared to take a swim!!!

Pierre was very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. He spoke English which is very helpful and was willing to answer all questions. Hire him for your stay and you will be taken care of.

I had the best time visiting the la citadel and Cape haitian. Augusnel went out of is way to make sure that everything worked out. He took me to the airport and stayed with me until I started going into the customs to make sure that everything went well .ty Augusnel

This was my first trip to Haiti, and I truly could not have asked for a better tour guide than Augusnel with Augusnel Tour Haiti. This was an amazing and highly interesting guided trip in Port-au-Prince. Pierre was my guide on this one day tour and gave me deep insights into culture and daily life of this rumbling capital. Besides the major sights he understood to make this trip very individual and had answers to all questions I asked him. In summary I strongly advise to take this kind of visit because as a newcomer it's one the best choices to get the whole package in shortest time possible.

Used Eagle Tours, was worth the price, $140. Trip included round trip drive from Port au Prince to the Bassin Bleu. Bassin Bleu is very beautiful, and features a semi challenging, but short hike. Swimming in the bassin is very nice and a great break from the heat of Haiti. Water is cool and very deep.

830 / 5 000 A beautiful attraction near Cap-Haitien, about 1 hour from the city center with a beautiful road. But you need a 4x4 for the last kilometers and especially the ascent of the mountain. A first stop at the foot of the hill to visit the ruins of the castle of King Christophe. Then 20 minutes of 4x4 to climb halfway on the mountain. There, you are waiting for either the horse or a 30-minute walk with a significant slope. But it is worth it. At the top, the view is magnificent, up to the sea and on the other side, the mountain range. The citadel has a good collection of Cannons (war spoils of the Haitians of the north on the French and English boats of the time). I advise you to leave early in the morning, to avoid climbing in full sun. No restaurant on site, you must bring your water and your sandwich.

Amazing experience. I went solo and had so much fun. I felt safe the entire time and would book again. The tour is worth the money. August does not rush you and give you time to take pictures. He’s very professional and made me feel comfortable.
