Top Odessa Walking Tours

This walking tour was the absolute highlight of our trip to Odesa! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and shared fascinating stories about the city's history, architecture, and local culture. We walked through beautiful streets, saw iconic landmarks, and learned things we would never have discovered on our own. Highly recommend to everyone visiting this wonderful city!

Michael was my city tour guide. We went overtime, walking and talking - Odesa today, Odesa tomorrow - before and after Soviet times. About Ukraine. About the war. This one and the last one. Michael knows history. He knows politics. My country’s and his. And he knows Odesa… no questions are off limits He weaved his presentation and site destinations, to my needs. Which is exactly what a good teacher should do. And he is a very good teacher. This Odesa city tour was a great intro to a beautiful and complicated place. I highly recommend Michael to show you the way.

We couldn't have asked for a better guide than Michail: full of knowledge, adding to the history of the city his own family history, showing pictures and videos in addition to him telling the story and open to questions all the time. Fabulous experience - highly recommended!

The tour was very informative and our guide Mikhail was wonderful! We learned a lot about Odessa and its history. Will recommend to others

I have been visiting Ukraine since 2004, and in that time I have only ever visited Odessa once, and it was only a rainy afternoon in the summer of 2005, where I saw next to nothing.Fast forward to 2021, and I was traveling to Moldova via Odessa, so used the chance to see the city.Looking around I found Odessa Walks, and the reviews were good, so decided to book a tour through them.I know Odessa has a lot to see (both rich and poor sides) plus a very rich Jewish history on top of that, and this tour seemed right up my street as it covered EVERYTHING in Odessa, and when I asked if the Catacombs could be added in to my tour, they were more than happy to accommodate.Olga was a complete joy to work with from first approach right through to the day itself, and really brought Odessa to life for me, with a very in depth history of the city, as well as taking me to find some more off the beaten track locations that I would never have found.First part of the tour was a walk around the heart of Odessa, leaning about the origins of the city and the beating heart of Odessa, this was followed with a bit of insight into the writer Isaac Babel (I strongly recommend reading his Odessa Stories book, as you will visit a lot of the places that influenced his stories, and the people who potentially were the basis that were characters in his stories). After a lovely stop off at a Georgian Restaurant for lunch, the afternoon section was a trip by car around Moldavanka, with more insight into area's away from the city.Highlight of the day was the Odessa Catacombs, which were about a 15 minute drive outside of Odessa, but very much worth it.Covering around 2km's underground, you get to learn about the history of the caves as a mine for building Odessa as it expanded with people moving into the area from other regions, and then during WW2 where it was used as a shelter for the Partizans fighting against the Nazi's.Really amazing stuff. The day started at 10am, and I asked if I could be dropped off at Odessa train station for 6pm, and it was 5:45pm when I was dropped off at the front steps of the train station.Olga is amazing guide and will teach you a lot about Odessa, so highly recommend this tour.

Really great place, expecially if you like history. All was organized well, guided tour was interesting and friendly.

She was very good and knowledgeable about Odessa. It was very hot, so we tried to find shade so we won’t get too hot. I discovered a lot about Odessa and it’s history. The only suggestion I have for my guide - please do not talk about masons and they r role in building Odessa or assassination of Pushkin - these are unproven conspiracy theories and not facts.

I spent perfect time with Mme. Olga, she is such patient, well knowledge person! I learned so much from her about the city and opera! Thanks so much!

Natasha gave us a great tour through the catacombs. Interesting how they were used to fight the German invasion. Bring a jacket, it’s cool down there.

A scintillating mix of history and tastings. Olga really knows her stuff and her love for Odessa comes through in every word. Highly recommend.

Had a great day with Olga! Best way to see & learn about the culture and history of the beautiful city. Food was great! I now have done the Pub tour, Food tour & Catacombs with them & highly recommend!

Very interesting trip and nice guide! Thank you for organisation🙏🏻I think this is the best way to know Odessa

On this tour you will hear very interesting, inspiring and emotional stories about heroic defense of Odesa in hard times, solders, various weapons, vehicles and see very interesting exhibits. Guide Nastja know a lot of interesting and historic information and she transfer everything in very good way. They offer transport which is cheaper then taxi or uber. There is also very good entertainment park for children.

Great, well-informed tour of the Soviet 411 battery and military equipment. Each piece has a story to tell and guide Nastya tells it well. One learns about heavy tanks and artillery and how well they worked and how far they reached. One sees a tiny artillery apparatus dubbed the "Goodbye Motherland' because of its vulnerability to retaliatory strikes. Nastya explains the mystery behind the numbering of the submarine on display. On display is also a gigantic gun of the type used to counter Romanian advances in World War II. The actual guns and their supporting bunkers had to be destroyed by Soviet forces eventually as the attack on Odessa proceeded. One can see the remains if those bunkers nearby. Next to the park is a small military history museum of the 411 Battery and other military forces in the region in WW2. It tells the human stories behind the military equipment [albeit all in Russian text]. The tour and museum addition probably take two hours to traverse and contemplate. For those interested in seeing real historical artifacts read about in books or seen in documentaries and movies, this is a must-do tour for you. Nastya's in-depth knowledge and personal style ensure you enjoy a most informative experience.

Strongly recommend Green Tours for reliable, flexible and customized trip. Driver went out of his way to be helpful and to make the journey unique. Local guide in Odesa was very well informed and helped us pack in a variety of venues.

We have just arrived back from a fantastic tour of the catacombs with our guide Nataliya! Being a history teacher I was already very excited, but this tour surpassed expectations. We were collected from our hotel on time and then the tour was underway as soon as the car pulled away. Nataliya spoke passionately about the history and founding of the city of Odessa, pointing out some further details in the city as we drove out of town on our way to the site. No sitting in awkward silence, we were engaged from the off! Our tour in the catacombs lasted approx 1hr 45 mins and we saw the main museum section therefore we did not need boots or hard hats, we wore jeans and tops with cardigans and slip on shoes and we were fine. Shoes with socks would be recommended, it is constant 15 degrees underground. The history of the partisan resistance and their lives in the catacombs was fascinating, especially as our guide was so knowledgeable and had family connections to this. It was storytelling at its best, bringing the past to life. But she went further and offered something for everyone, from rock formations to the science and skill behind the early house building. On the tour you see the passages and living quarters of the partisans including the sleeping areas, hospital, school, meeting area, bomb making room etc I cannot recommend this tour highly enough and a special thanks to our guide who really made the tour exceptional.
