Top Wanaka Fishing

What a fantastic fishing trip! Ash was super friendly and helpful, he certainly knows his stuff and where the best spots are on Lake Wanaka. If you are looking for something to do whilst in Wanaka I would really recommend taking the 3 hour fishing charter with Ash - you won’t regret it! 2 rainbow trout, 1 brown trout landed on the trip and I managed to hook my very first Salmon - what a day! Thanks Ash, I hope you remain busy

Ash knew where the fish were and how to catch them! A rainbow trout and brown trout within the first 30min. A great experience with an amazing guide. The fish were cleaned ready to put in the oven before we even got off the boat.

This was such an incredible experience! I booked for my partner and I and they were accommodating and very educational to every question we asked. Ended catching 7-8 fish in total as a group and had fresh Sashimi off the back of the boat and gotten to take our half home to cook up ourselves!Would recommend this to anybody wether experienced or not, we had an amazing time, thankyou everyone involved ❤️

We had an awesome day out with Catch A Fish in Lake Wanaka. Oli was our skipper and he was brilliant – really easygoing, knew his stuff, and got us straight onto the fish. We ended up landing the full trifecta: brown trout, rainbow trout and salmon, which made the day even better.We were out on the lake for about 6 hours and it honestly flew by. The scenery alone is worth it, but Oli also took the time to point out a few spots and share some local knowledge, which added to the experience.There were six of us on board and the Stabicraft was really comfortable with plenty of space. It was well set up for fishing and didn’t feel cramped at all.All up, a great day with good company, great fishing and a top operator. Would definitely recommend it if you’re in Wanaka.

Olly is an excellent fisherman and host. Really knows the lake and where the fish are. I booked an afternoon trip and was worried it was the wrong time of the day but it was pretty much non stop action. Great experience. Highly recommend.

This was my very first time fishing — and it happened in a lake in Queenstown, New Zealand!! Oh my god. Eating super fresh sashimi that we literally just caught… that kind of experience really feels like a once-in-a-lifetime moment. I’ll never forget it.Olly is an extremely experienced fisherman, and also incredibly funny and down-to-earth. It honestly felt like he knows everything about fishing. Most importantly — he cured my motion sickness. Absolute lifesaver!!!We spent over three amazing hours on the boat, chatting about everything, cheering together every time a fish was on the line, taking photos of each other, and even learning the classic trick of making the fish look five times bigger in photos 😂The weather in Queenstown yesterday was perfect. During those three hours on the lake, besides fishing, eating fresh sashimi and having breakfast together, I couldn’t stop admiring how breathtaking Queenstown looks from the water. Seeing the town from the lake gives you a completely different perspective.In such a highly touristic town, I truly cherished this unique and authentic way of experiencing New Zealand. Highly, highly recommended — five stars without hesitation! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Best fishing trip ever! Beautiful lake with big trout and a wonderful guide. Caught some big rainbow trouts and some salmon.

Dad and I had a great day fishing with Ollie on Lake Hawea. Ollie is an excellent guide with a great knowledge of the area and professionally setup with good equipment. He ensured we had a good catch and was great company all day. We were more that happy to do catch and release, taking home just one of our 17 catches which was great eating. We HIGHLY recommend Ollie and Catch a Fish and look forward to coming back soon.B and L

Great day even with the wind and Rain we had lots of action, only lande 1 but Ollie got us onto fish, we just couldn't seem to keep them on long enough to get in the net. Nice new boat kept us dry and Ollie is a great Skipper and guide. Highly recommend

We took our dog, Targa on a half day fishing charter with Ash…and it was an amazing experience.Ash suggested which day & time and he was spot on! We had a beautiful sunny winter’s day on the lake that looked like a mirror. It was simply stunning!We caught 3 beautiful rainbow trout & 1 amazing salmon. Sushi & Fried fish on the menu.Ash is a genuine, friendly, passionate & all round bloody good bugger! His knowledge of the lake, the fish, the secret spots, beautiful secluded & quiet beaches and never ending passion is just awesome!We, and our dog, loved him, his super quiet & silky smooth boat and the whole fishing experience. We just can’t stop smiling:-)Thank you for this wonderful day out on the lake.As locals, we not only recommend Ash & his fishing charters….we support it 110%

Definitely recommend this charter, Ash was such a knowledgeable guide who led us strait to the bite. It took only 15-20mins before we caught my son’s first ever Rainbow Trout followed by a nice Brown.. He gutted them for us to take home for dinner & picked us up & dropped us off at our accommodation. I’m 100% certain we would’ve got more but had to cut it short due to the cold weather & rain closing in.. If you want to catch fish I highly recommend Ashley & I’ll definitely do it again if I ever come back!!!! Thanks Ash again mate you’re a champion!!!!! Stu & Lachie 😎

Wow, just wow! The snow was rubbish so we decided to head out with Ash on Lake Wanaka for 3hrs of fishing. What a blast!! Ash has amazing local knowledge Super stable boat Multiple styles of fishing to stack the odds And we caught heaps!!! Fish and chips tonight!! Thanks Ash, an amazing day.

Catch a Fish provides an amazing fishing experience. From the support finding the right trip for our group, securing licenses, helpful and responsive communications, timely meeting, fantastic boat, great equipment, knowledgeable and personable guide, seamless process to get us in the water and quickly fishing, they did everything right. Yet, fishing is fishing and the catching is never assured. However, in our case, Ollie (our guide) got us in the right spot and we had action the whole time bringing in many beautiful fish. We enjoyed one sashimi style on the boat with wasabi and soy sauce. Kept one large brown trout (he cleaned and vacuum packed it), followed his cooking directions and enjoyed it for dinner that night. In both cases the flavor, texture and freshness made the experience memorable. All of the other fish were returned to the cold lake waters and, hopefully, enhance this wonderful adventure for others. It was a truly exciting experience! I was a beginner and honestly worried because I tend to get seasick, but Ollie was a very kind and patient instructor, which made me feel at ease and confident enough to join. The waters of Lake Hawea were calm, so I didn't get seasick at all. In three hours, we caught a total of five fish: Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout! (My husband let two get away, haha.) The trout became our dinner that evening, and we had such a wonderful time. I would absolutely love to join again when I come back to New Zealand.

Oliver is a Great skipper with a Top water riding boat in a Stabicraft. Very waterproof and no side wakes. The fishing was excellent with my wife and myself. Oliver had top reels and equipment. Over the three hours we caught 7 Rainbow and 1 Brown Trout The biggest went 4 1/2lbs and we only kept two of the smaller ones. Fish were gutted and cryovaced on board for us. Totally recommend fishing with Oliver Catch a Fish.
