This is The Historic Triangle Tour. Travel with a local back in time and also in chronological order. We will spend the first part of our day in the 1600's and the second half in the 1700's. This is where the country began, you will see and learn history from a local. We start our day at Jamestown, the beginning 1607 with a guided tour. Our lunch stop will be next at a local restaurant where we will have an included colonial style meal. After lunch we travel into the 1700's with a battlefield tour and finishing up at the Revolutionary War Museum.

Almost Historical

The Tidewater water region in the summer. How did this country ever get beyond Jamestown? My wife and I are 70-ish years old and had never visited this historic region though we have wanted to since we were kids. We picked a 98-degree day. We’re in good shape. We survived. If you have a Senior National Park Pass, bring it. When booking this tour we expected immersion in history, not a theme park. Almost everything in Williamsburg is a recreation born in the 1930s and has been built up since. While the costumed actors were knowledgeable and entertaining, I have been to historic recreations many times; this was just another. I found this disappointing. When you go make sure you get an all-day pass so that you can take the bus into Historic Williamsburg or will have to walk about a mile to get there from the welcome center. Jamestown is what I really wanted to see. There have been scientific excavations of the original colony. We didn’t get to see it. The bus tour takes you to a recreation of Jamestown Colony. Again, the actors were fine, but they and the “theme park” were not 400 years old. Jamestown, the original site, and the archaeological dig is a mile away and you won’t have time to get there. Lunch was great. The tour stopped at a restaurant that served a colonial-style lunch. Yummy! The tour of the Yorktown battlefield was worse. We stopped at a couple of places on the battlefield and our guide was light on history. Most of our time was at the Battlefield Visitors Center. Again, a “Historic theme park” not unlike our previous stops. My comments here aren’t condemning the tour or the guide. I was disappointed because I wanted history, not gift shops. I will go back, knowing better and planning my time accordingly.
