In 1969 the Swampers founded Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and within months they were attracting hit recording artists from around the world who came to them in search of the signature sound that forever changed American music. Through the generosity of Beats Electronics the legendary studio has been authentically restored. From the vintage equipment in the control room upstairs to the orange carpet in the Swampers' party room downstairs, the building looks exactly as it did during those magical years between 1969 and 1978. Peek into the bathroom where Keith Richards put the finishing touches on Wild Horses or sit at the piano that Paul Simon played on Kodachrome.

Muscle Shoals Sound Studios (256-978-5151) – opens at 10am, tours start at 10:30 on the half hour. I went to the 11:30 am tour with Chase. Great vibe in this small studio where Mavis Staples, Cher, The Rolling Stones, Bob Segar, etc. all recorded. Chase said that Jerry Wexler had the Stones record 3 songs here after playing in Florida and Auburn before going to play at the infamous Altamonte, CA concert. Since The Stones did not have a work visa for recording in the US, these recordings were under the radar and the studio is not mentioned on the Sticky Fingers album. Wild Horses, Brown Sugar and a third song were recorded here. Thanks to Dre for donating money to help restore this piece of history.

Great tour with a history of amazing musicians coming to this studio to record including The Rolling Stones, Linda Ronstadt, Cher and many others. The tour guide was passionate and allowed us inside the booth to see all the equipment. We’ll worth your time to visit.
Such Amazing Storytelling!

So after watching the Muscle Shoals documentary, I surprised my boyfriend with a quick weekend trip to tour Fame and Sound Studios in Muscle Shoals. This tour of Sound Studios was amazing! I really appreciated the story telling connected to playing the songs that were recorded right there. It was really great for someone like me who’s not very good with remember the names of songs or artists.Definitely recommend!

What we had planned as a simple rest stop between Atlanta and Memphis turned into the highlight of our entire family trip. The folks at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio are so welcoming, and the tour is so engrossing - full of music and colorful stories about this amazing building and the stars that once passed through its doors. Highly recommended for music fans of all ages, but an absolute must-visit for fans of the 1970's Muscle Shoals sound that dominated the charts for so many artists.

Oh my! If you love the music of the 60’s and 70’s, you must do this! The Jackson Hwy location - not the newer one, which we did not visit. Terrell Benton was our tour guide, and he knew, admired, and obviously loved the “Swampers”. Standing in that old studio, listening to Benton’s stories of the recordings and artists, told with the appreciation and reverence they deserve, I was simply mesmerized. Benton is easily the best tour guide I have had, and the studio itself is a treasure. Book it, and enjoy!!
