When you tour with non-profit Save Our Cemeteries you are helping to preserve and protect the historic cemeteries of New Orleans. Our tours are small and historically accurate.

Lake Lawn Metairie cemetery was named by Forbes as one of “America’s Best Cemeteries.”

This picturesque cemetery boasts some of the grandest funerary architecture and sculpture in the US. Live oaks surround greek temples, gothic and Islamic style tombs, obelisks, and marble monuments with beautiful ironwork and stained glass.

The resting place of many of New Orlean's most influential and notorious citizens, Metairie Cemetery holds the graves of over 9,000 people on 65 landscaped acres. Nine Louisiana governors, seven New Orleans mayors, 49 kings of Carnival, and three Confederate generals rest alongside madams, brothel owners, bandleaders Louis Prima and Al Hirt, vampire writer Anne Rice, and former Saints and Pelicans’ owner Tom Benson.

Glenn was our tour guide, and he was wonderful. His knowledge was vast and he was just a sweet delightful person. I've been passing Metairie Cemetery my entire life, and it was just fantastic to finally be able to spend time there and learn about it. The place is gorgeous, and I can't say how great Glenn was enough.

Wonderful tour, highly-highly recommend doing a tour with Save Our Cemeteries they’re the only nonprofit tour group dedicated to maintaining all the historic gravesites in New Orleans.Amazing walking tour at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery! Our guide Glenn was very knowledgeable, it was clear that he has a passion for the history of this place and the preservation of New Orleans’ history. He shared a lot of history on how New Orleans was developed in relation to the cemetery and told us about prominent people who were buried in Lake Lawn Metairie.It was hot (90 degrees) when my group and I went so I would suggest checking the weather and bringing a hat, parasol, and ample water if the weather requires. Glenn was also so thoughtful and gave us all cool water at the end of our tour.

Great Guide Glenn with a huge amount of knowledge of this Cemetery. This was only for the very wealthy so if you are more interested in the traditional cemetery with New Orleans this may not be what you are looking for.

Great tour led by Jamie Barker. She was very knowledgeable and was able to provide historical backgrounds to the cemetery and some of the graves there. I would recommend as well as book through them to see other cemeteries as well. Their organization also does great restorative work to grave sites that have historical or cultural significance which is a great cause to preserve history.

This was a very interesting tour of a beautiful cemetery. It was full of greenery in lawns and trees. It is so different from the other New Orleans cemeteries. Our guide, Glenn, was so knowledgeable!

This tour was fantastic. Glen, our guide was very knowledgeable and charming. He was very considerate of our needs, allowing time for a bathroom stop beforehand, making sure no one needed to end at a certain time and giving us cold water after the tour. We learned so much, not just about Metierie, but about all types of history and culture. When we come back to NOLA, we will book with Save Our Cemeteries again.
