Hal's friendly engaging style is both educational and entertaining. As a Galveston Island resident and scientist, he brings a unique perspective to the storms that have ravaged the Island with special focus on the great storm of 1900.
You will tour the historic East end of Galveston and viewing the historic homes and beautiful tree sculptures while learning about how the hurricanes over the last 120 years have changed Galveston forever.

This tour was very interesting, educational and well put together. It was also fantastic to be able to enjoy it in an AIR CONDITIONED bus since it was ridiculously hot outside.
David, our tour guide, was amazing. His knowledge of not just hurricane history but Galveston history was impressive. He even showed us “the hidden Seawall” and waited for us to go out and take a picture.
The media presentation in the bus was very informative and I loved the old pictures from the 1900 hurricane.
The Galveston Experience Company store was well stocked with snacks, drinks and unique items for souvenirs/gifts.
I would highly recommend this tour!!

Driver David was very knowledgeable and had great stories about the history and neighborhoods we drove through. I would recommend this tour to everyone who visits the island! I learned so many interesting facts. Hurricane Hal’s narrative was fascinating and the old photos were outstanding! Thanks for an amazing tour of Galveston! Loved it!

I loved the tour!! I moved to Texas 7 years ago and have visited Galveston many times. A friend suggested I read, Isaac’s Storm about the meteorologist in charge during the Great Storm of 1900. I became interested in the history of Galveston and this tour was fantastic. Dr Hal Needham who is an expert on the Storm of 1900 as well as other hurricanes that followed, provides a wonderful picture of the times in 1900 and as they appear today. I was lucky that I was the only person to sign up today for the tour, which made it much more special. The tour takes you from the past to how it all appears today which is a wonderful history lesson for all. I highly recommend considering this tour to gain a perspective of the past and it’s affect of the changes that were made to better secure Galveston for future weather events. Thank you, Dr Hal! You were awesome!

My 9-year old son and I enjoyed this tour! We learned more than we expected, including several NEW facts about the island and the effects of hurricanes there (and I’ve been thru other Galveston storm tours before). The tour covers stories from several famous storms; the buildings and homes that have literally weathered their 120-year history; climate and storm surge data; history, utility, and fun facts about the Seawall; and a sampling of Galveston’s tree sculptures. The hour went by fast and the tour is NOT BORING (even for my kiddo). It kind of leaves you wanting to spend more time with this experience! Two thumbs up! We recommend! COVID NOTE: Bus is clean and social distancing is respected. (So seating is limited; plan and buy tickets ahead.)
