Overview

There are only a handful of tour guides that are native to the area. I am one of them. My family has been in the Carolinas since 1735 and came to the Charleston area in 1786 to preach abolition of slavery. This city is my home and I love to welcome people into it. I love the history, culture and people, both alive and long gone, that make up an American story, the story of Charleston. I am part of the community and walking the streets with me is like being on a walk around the neighbourhood. I know the history like the back of my hand and thankfully, over the years, have gotten to know the residents that live in the areas we walk through. Join me. I am not part of some big tour company. I am a sole proprietor. When you book with Peninsula Walking, you get me.

This is a must do when visiting Charleston! Evans is extremely knowledgeable about Charleston history (AND about plants!) and has many interesting stories to share. My favorite story is about a man he considers to be one of the greatest people in history. After hearing this story, I have to agree. I won't give away his name but you didn't learn about this person in school and we all should have. But history books do not give credit where credit is due to the enslaved people. This man truly was an unsung hero.

Such a great experience. Evans was very personable quickly putting everyone at ease. The history he shared with us was unique and insightful. I learned so much. He gave great tips on places to visit, things to do and where to eat. He was the best. Do yourself a favor and get on his tours- you won’t be disappointed

Definitely try this tour- guide was very knowledgeable about Charleston and its history. The itinerary on the TripAdvisor site does not do it justice - multiple stops with interesting info and stories about the location and the history. Ample time for questions. Loved the back alleys and interesting facts about the residences, architecture and area of town. This was our second time in Charleston and I would definitely recommend this walk!

Days before we started!! I actually was having difficulties with scheduling our tour so I called and spoke to Evans.He was very helpful took all our information and then I asked for suggestions on restaurants. We actually made reservations at 4 that he suggested and they were amazing. You were certainly right about the “Tomato Pie”Evans!! Our tour was a little over 2 hours and it was informative and fun. Evan was engaging and had a vast knowledge of Charleston history. I hope to visit the city and take another tour with Evans again.

Our tour was in a small group, only 6 people, which was great! We had time to hear a lot of interesting stories about the town and it’s people. Evans knows everything there is to know about Charleston and more. It’s a great way to see historic Charleston and get inside information on the architecture and the history.
