Overview

The most popular tour! Drive your own sled-dog team with 4 time Iditarod winner Dallas Seavey's team of mushers, handlers and champion dogs on real snow in the middle of summer surrounded by amazing scenery. Start this adventure with a helicopter ride over glaciers and icebergs. We often see moose, black bears, Dall sheep and goats. Land on a huge snow eld high on a glacier and enjoy a whole hour with champion sled dogs and their mushers that live here all summer. Take the dog team for an exhilarating ride through real snow. You can stand on the runners and mush your own dog team or just sit on the sled and let the mushers run the team. After your dogsled tour meet the canine athletes that pulled your sled, listen to stories about running sled dog races of over a 1,000 miles long, and of course take pictures with your favorite dogs. After the tour the helicopter takes you back to the lodge and you’ll fly over the lower glaciers where you can see the blue melt pools and the crevasses.

Alaska Helicopter and Glacier Dogsled Tour - ANCHORAGE AREA

We did this event as a family. Would recommend. The price seems a little expensive but well worth it. We stayed at Knik Lodge and did the helicopter ride in the morning. I think we were the first group of the day. We were a group of four and went up in two different helicopters. The view was fantastic going and coming. Once we reached the dog sled camp were were meet by staff who got us on the sled right away. No waiting. Staff took there time with us explained what was happening and took us sledding. Lots of fun. Able to get plenty of pictures. They had a picture package that we did not buy but my son decided to get it when we got home. He was able to preview and it was well worth the cost.

As someone who has travelled the globe and isn't particularly fond of "tours" I found this "tour" one of the best I've ever experienced and then some. From the drive getting to the take off point, to the very cool helicopter ride (I was able to sit next to the pilot!), to seeing the magnificent landscapes below and ahead of us as we approached the glacier where this brilliant dog sled team "vacationed" for the summer, to the dog sledding experience, meeting the dogs and their handlers, all was a 10 plus. Of course, there being just 3 of us plus the pilot made the trip seem very private and special. It felt like we had been transported to an otherworldly place where, low and behold, a dog team was placed just for us. Highly highly recommend! And those dogs!!!!

Dogsledding was such an enjoyable and unique experience. The dogs were so friendly and well trained. The puppies were adorable and active. It was so incredible to meet sled dogs from the camp that consistently wins the Iditarod. Guides were so cool to talk to, full of information, and obviously loved what they do. The glacier landing was beautiful, glacier water was so cold and fresh, and our helicopter pilot had a great personality and shared lots of cool information about the glacier.

This experience was well worth it for us. It packed in a lot of awesome experiences into a short time. The transport from Anchorage worked well. After arrival, they provide boots that go over regular shoes to walk in the snow, so no need for special footwear. It was probably in the high 30's or 40's on the ice and close to 60 F at the Knik lodge. So, as described in their information, bringing thin gloves and hat, with fleece or down layers, was good. If it had been raining or windy it would have been pretty cold.I was nervous about the helicopter ride because I get motion sick easily, but the ride was smooth with spectacular scenery. The helicopter seated six passengers, so they rotated who sat in front for the way there vs back. But even the view from the back middle was good and I could see between the front passengers well enough to enjoy it. The landscape is varied as it flies over green valleys, past rocky mountains, and over the glacier -- all in 15 minutes. The dog sledding was fun. They rotate who stands on the runners and who sits, while the guide controls the dogs and sled. The dogs are very social -- more than I expected. They mentioned they socialize them to a wide variety of people intentionally. The puppies were adorable and enthusiastic to meet people.I was impressed with the organization of the tour and how well designed it was to be a great experience. I agree with another review describing "Helicopter ride, walk on a glacier, and ride a dog sled -- all bucket list activities all in one friendly tour".

The helicopter ride to the Glacier is short but beautiful. The dog mushers are personable, sharing information about the dogs, training, and daily care of the dogs. You get to experience riding and mushing. And who can resist playing with the dogs? This was everything I was expecting and more!

One of the best experiences. If you visit Alaska, it’s a must do. We couldn’t do the dogsledding due to weather but flight seeing was awesome. Also drinking water from the glacier :). The pilot was very nice and made it an unforgettable trip. Definitely coming back
