Big jeep takes you on a scary road up to the Airport in the Sky. We loved it! Our driver/guide had lots of info to share. And we managed to spot one of the famous bison.
Very good tour. Great overall big picture of the island.
I've been to Catalina many times before for work so this was the first time I was able to play tourist on the island. I'm so very glad we signed up for this tour! It was the highlight of my day! Being able to see the untouched part of the island was incredible! The various views along the way was incredible, and to top it off, we saw several bison! I love this tour and would do it again in a heartbeat!
I really enjoyed venturing into the undeveloped portion of the island. We saw several bison, and a fox, which are driver stopped for, so we could take pictures. Beautiful views along the way to the airport, which itself was rather ho-hum. Our driver/guide's narrative gave us insight into the island's features.
It was a great time - I've wanted to do the tour for years so I'm glad it worked out this time. Our guide was a wealth of information and I appreciated his dry humor!
Firstly, Jeff, our guide, was fantastic! He went out of his way to calm the nerves of one of our family members who was afraid of the heights and steep drop offs. He's a very kind, personable, knowledgeable, and skilled guide. The vehicle is quite the experience in itself. It's like a giant Hummer. Jeff tell you all about it. We did see several Bison and were very lucky to see one of the tiny foxes. He was standing at the edge of the road. And it's true, they are about the size of a small house cat. Of course the history of the island told by Jeff was extensive and fascinating. The view out of the open sides of the vehicle make it easy for everyone to see even if it was a bit windy and dusty. That exposure made us feel more in touch with the natural setting. The only suggestion I have is to somehow improve the sound system. Thank you Safari Island Adventure Tour for opening the month of April so our family of 8 could book the tour. My advice to anyone considering this tour is to check the cost carefully to decide if it's for you.
The tour is a bit pricey, but they go up a private road that you can't access with your own vehicle. The ride is definitely bumpy but fun, the views are gorgeous, our guide was informative. The highlight of the trip was seeing so many bison! We were so close to two of them, we could almost touch them! We also saw two hawks and a beautiful white bird egret?. A short stop at the airport was neat, they have a gift shop with a place to get snacks and a beautiful tile map of Catalina along with info about the island. I have been to Catalina four times before, but have never taken this inland tour, very glad I went this time!
It was a fun, relaxing bus ride up to the airport. We got to see a Bison and lots of birds. The views of the ocean and the harbors were incredible!
wouldn't recommend the trip to friends
overrated too expensive and not worth the time and money
going up and down same route with a driver that is very hard to understand.
probably the 4x4 tour is more valuable
